Men’s Soccer to Hit the Road for NEC Matchup Against CCSU Sunday

>> Men's soccer hits the road for their fourth Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup this season against Central Connecticut State 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9 in New Britain, Connecticut at the CCSU Soccer Field.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Francis played to a scoreless draw at Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday. The Red Flash had four shots, three of which were on target.

THE WORD ON THE BLUE DEVILS
CCSU is 2-7 on the season with nonconference wins against Hartford and St. Bonaventure. Since their victory against the Bonnies, the Blue Devils have dropped seven straight matches. The program is currently tied for last in the conference standings with zero points with Stonehill.
 
Last season CCSU finished 2-12-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the NEC. The Blue Devils two conference victories came from Mount St. Mary's and Howard.
 
Returning for the Blue Devils is sophomore midfielder Birk Martinsen who has started all nine matches for the program and is the team's leading goal scorer this season with two goals and 13 shot attempts.
 
In goal for the Blue Devils is junior Daniel Wilmore and freshman Mick Sipples who have split the start for the program this season, however Wilmore has made the start in the team's first two NEC matches. The pair of goalies have allowed seven goals each on the season. Wilmore has a save percentage of .741, while Sipples has a save percentage of .708.
 
The Blue Devils are under the direction of David Kelly who is in his third season as head coach with the program. CCSU was voted to finish sixth in the NEC preseason poll.

LAST TIME WE MET
Saint Francis leads the all-time series 8-6-3 with their most recent victory over the Blue Devils coming in 2021 winning 4-0 in Loretto.
 
Patrick Heron had a natural hat trick in the match in 2021. Heron scored all three goals in the first half, earning him NEC Player and Rookie of the Week.
 
The Red Flash have won three straight matches over the Blue Devils.
