Volleyball’s Sweep over CSSU Secures a Spot in the NEC Tournament

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University women's volleyball claimed a straight set win over Central Connecticut State on Friday to clinch a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament.
 
>> With today's win, the Red Flash improve to 11-15 overall and 9-4 in the Northeast Conference to move to second place in the conference.
 
>> Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) posted a double-double in Friday's win with 15 digs and 10 kills, while also collecting four aces for the Red Flash.
 
>> Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) and Skye Eicher (Rostraver Township, Pa./Frazier) led the team offensively for the duo to post a combined 26 kills over the three sets.
 
>> Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) continued to lead the Red Flash as a setter by notching 40 assists in the game.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The first set started off as a back-and-forth battle between both teams, featuring 13 tied scores. With the Red Flash down 15-14, a 5-0 run put the team on top to stay there for the remainder of set one. A 3-1 run that saw kills from Tyus, Eicher and Wallech gave the Red Flash the first set, 25-21. The Red Flash continued its spark from claiming the first set to be able to go on and claim the next two sets for the 3-0 victory over the Blue Devils.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
The Blue Devils claimed an early lead over the Red Flash in set two by going on a 7-3 run. The Blue Devils maintained this lead for the majority of the first set until the Red Flash notched a 4-0 run to take a two-point lead. The remainder of the second set continued to be a battle between both teams. However, with set two tied at 19, the Red Flash recorded a 4-0 run to take the lead and maintain it for the rest of the second set. A kill from Eicher gave the Red Flash the second set, 25-22.
 
The Red Flash got on the board first to start the third set to never allow the Blue Devils lead in the final set. Saint Francis held its biggest lead of the match in the third and final set with a nine-point lead over the Blue Devils. A kill from Drew Wallech (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) gave the Red Flash the final set, 25-17.  
 
FLASH NUGGETS 

This is the second consecutive year that Red Flash women's volleyball has clinched a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament. It was also a win over Central Connecticut State last year that allowed the team to clinch a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will continue in Connecticut by facing Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 5:00 p.m. to close out regular season action.
