Women’s Basketball Falls in Home Opener to Towson

LORETTO, Pa.  – Saint Francis University women's basketball dropped its 2022-23 home opener 68-58 against Towson.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Layla Laws led Saint Francis with 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds.
» Aaliyah Moore grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and scored seven points.
» Filippa Goula recorded 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting and dished out six assists.
» Towson's Kylie Kornegay-Lucas scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
Towson led after a low-scoring 11-5 first quarter before they extended the lead to 15-5 one minute into the second quarter. Saint Francis followed with a 12-0, led by two Adison Novosel three-point shots and four straight Goula free throws after two technical fouls on Towson. With a 17-15 Saint Francis lead, Towson was able to open a seven-point lead at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, Saint Francis cut the deficit to four, 35-31, before Towson narrowly extended the lead to seven, 45-38, after three quarters. Saint Francis trailed by four points with two minutes remaining in the game but after two missed opportunities to close the gap, the Tigers extended the lead before a 68-58 victory.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
Laws shattered her previous career-high of six points and three made field goals with her 15 and seven, respectively.  
 
Moore's 13 rebounds broke her previous career-high on 10 set twice last season. She has at least eight rebounds in three of the four games this season.
 
Goula recorded her third double-digit scoring game in her first four as a member of the Red Flash. She leads Saint Francis with 8.8 points per game.
