Saint Francis University men's volleyball defeated the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University, 3-2 on Friday to go 3-0 in conference play.Â

Thomas Leahey (State College, Pa./State College Area) led the Red Flash in kills and blocks overall with 14 and four, respectively. While also recording two serving aces in the match.

Trevor Lewis (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) followed closely behind Leahey with 11 kills on the day for the Red Flash.

AJ Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led the Saint Francis men's volleyball squad with four serving aces and 41 assists in the match.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The biggest turning point of the game came in set five. With both programs tied, a fifth set was required to determine the match. Although the fifth set tied a couple of times, the Red Flash never allowed the Pioneers to lead in the final set. It was a 6-0 run that gave Red Flash men's volleyball the stamina to claim the fifth set. Thanks to a kill from Leahey, the Red Flash secured the final set, 15-9 to win the match, 3-2.

FLASH MOMENTS 

The Red Flash got on the board first to start the match off in the first set. However, after the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run, the Red Flash trailed for the remainder of the set. Sacred Heart claimed the first set, 25-16.

The Red Flash found its stride in the second to get on the board first and never allow the Pioneers to take the lead in the set. A kill by Leahey coming from Schmidt gave Saint Francis men's volleyball its biggest lead of the night at eight points to make the score 15-7. It was a 5-0 run that featured kills from
Joshua Blair (Matterson, Ill./ Marian Catholic) and
Andrew Deardorff (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) that clinched the second set for the Red Flash, 25-17 to tie the match, 1-1.

The third set continued to be a battle between both programs. However, the Pioneers were able to maintain the lead throughout the end of the set to claim the third set, 25-20.

With the Red Flash down 2-1 the squad had to answer back in the fourth set to stay alive and the team did just that. The fourth set was a battle in the beginning, but with the set tied 9-9, the Pioneers gave the Red Flash a point with an attack error, followed by a kill from Blair to make the score 11-9. Saint Francis men's volleyball maintained this lead throughout the remainder of the fourth set. A service error from the Pioneers allowed the Red Flash to claim the fourth set, 25-22 to be able to advance to the fifth and final set. Â

The Red Flash now stand at 26-4 overall against Sacred Heart men's volleyball.

With Saturday's win over Sacred Heart, the Red Flash have now won the last eight meetings against the Pioneers.

The Red Flash are now 5-4 overall and 3-0 in conference action.Â
