GAME NOTES VS. LIU

need to know... The game between Saint Francis and LIU marks the 84th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1963-64 season.
• The Sharks have won the last three meetings in the series to take a 43-40 edge in the all-time series.
• The Red Flash hold a 27-15 advantage in the series  at DeGol Arena. Saint Francis has won three of the last four in the series in Loretto.
• It will be the first meeting at DeGol Arena since Saint Francis earned a 74-71 decision in 2019-20.
• LIU earned a 75-70 win in overtime on Jan. 8 in the first meeting this season  between the two teams.
• Head coach Rob Krimmel is 8-11 against the Sharks. The two teams have split the last 12 meetings in the series at six games apiece.

a sfu win would... Be the third-straight win against LIU at DeGol Arena
•  End a three-game losing streak to the Sharks.
• Earn an all-important season split, which could have playoff implications with tiebreaker scenarios
• Be the second win in the month

next on tap... Saint Francis wraps up its five of six games at home against St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday.
• The Red Flash will honor Ramiir Dixon-Conover, Mark Flagg, Chukwu Ikediashi, A.J. Labriola and Ty Stewart in a pregame ceremony prior to the game against St. Francis Brooklyn, starting at 3:43 p.m.
• The Red Flash will conclude the regular season on the road at Central Connecticut State (Feb. 24) and at Sacred  Heart (Feb. 26).

the word on the sharks... LIU comes into the contest 11-13 overall and 8-6 in Northeast Conference play after defeating Bryant 99-88 on Saturday.
• Ty Flowers paced the Sharks with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Eral Penn added 24 points and 12 rebounds and Isaac Kante posted 24 points in the win against the Bulldogs.
• Flowers, who ranks second in the NEC in scoring, leads LIU in scoring (20.0 ppg.), rebounding (7.6 rpg.), steals (33) and blocks (40), while ranking second on the squad in assists (66).
• Penn ranks second on the team with 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while Kante is averaging 11.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
• Tre Woods fuels the team in assists (90) and is third on the team in steals (27).
• LIU is 9-1 at home and 2-12 on the road. The Sharks two road wins are at FDU and at St. Francis Brooklyn. FDU is 22 miles from the LIU campus and St. Francis Brooklyn is a couple blocks walk from the Brooklyn campus.

last time we met... LIU defeated Saint Francis 75-70 in overtime on Jan. 8, 2022.
• Redshirt seniors Ramiir Dixon-Conover paced the Red Flash with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists, while sophomore Maxwell Land notched his first career 20-point game along with eight boards. Senior Marlon Hargis added 10 points.
• Ty Flowers fueled four Sharks in double figures with 21 points, while Eral Penn (15 points), Kyndall Davis (11 points) and Isaac Kante (10 points, 11 rebounds) also found double figures.

last time out... Mount St. Mary's defeated Saint Francis 54-52 on Saturday.
• Senior Marlon Hargis paced the Red Flash with 13 points and tied a career high with eight rebounds.
• Redshirt sophomore Josh Cohen tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Maxwell Land also had 10 points.
• The 52 points the squad has scored this season and the fewest at DeGol Arena and the fewest points scored at home since registering 44 points against St. Francis Brooklyn on Feb. 20, 2014.

playoff push... The Red  Flash are currently tied for last place with Sacred Heart and FDU. If the playoff started today, FDU and Sacred Heart would play in the 8/9 game because the Red Flash currently come out of the tiebreaker first thanks to its win against Sacred Heart.
• Saint Ftancis is only one game out of  the fifth spot with four games left.
• The Loretto program will most likely be on the road for the postseason with LIU and Mount St. Mary's pretty much locked up the final home games in the quarterfinals. The Red Flash could host a home game if it was the No. 8 seed in the 8/9 game on February 28.
• In many ways, Saint Francis can have a lot to say about where it finishes with three of its final four games against the teams it is battling for playoff position.
• With four games left, Saint Francis, Mount St. Mary's and Long Island are tied with the second easiest strength of schedule remaining based on conference record (.400) of the opponents remaining. Merrimack, who is not eligible for the postseason, has the easiest strength of schedule at .381 and could have an impact on the Red Flash finish with contests against  FDU, Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn.
• In addition, the teams the Red Flash is fighting with for playoff position have the four hardest remaining schedules

Strength of Schedule (based off of conference record):
1. Merrimack .381
2. Saint Francis .400
     Mount St. Mary's .400
     LIU .400
5. Wagner .454
6. Bryant .482
7. SFBK .545
8. Sacred Heart .563
9. CCSU .660
10. FDU .709

• Saint Francis currently holds head-to-head tiebreakers against Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State, while the rest of the league currently has a tiebreaker against the Loretto program.
• The Red Flash split the season series with both Merrimack and FDU, but both of those teams hold a win against a higher ranked team and would hold the tiebreaker.

trending up... Senior Marlon Hargis led the team in scoring for the third time this season and the eighth time this season. Hargis will look to score back-to-back double-figure points for the fourth time this season and the seventh time in his time in Loretto. The senior has posted  10+ points in consecutive tilts every time he has reached double figures except twice in his career. Hargis also grabbed eight rebounds for the second time in the last three games and has grabbed five boards eight times this season.
• Redshirt sophomore Josh Cohen has moved into the Top-10 in the NEC in rebounding thanks to his third 10-rebound performance in his last four games and fourth in his last six contests. He also has three double-doubles in that stretch and a team-best five this season.  Cohen is averaging 13.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in that six-game span. He has also grabbed at least five boards in 18 of the 22 games he has played and at least seven caroms 11 times this year.

Land has also registered eight games with at least 10 points in the last 11 games and has scored at least 15 points  eight times this season after scoring over 15 points twice in his freshman campaign.
• If the pattern continues expect a big game from redshirt sophomore Brad McCabe on Thursday if the last two Thursdays are any indication. McCabe jumped on the scene with 11 points against Bryant on Feb. 3 and then had a career-high 21 points seven days later against FDU. The redshirt junior is averaging 16.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game on Thursday in the last two weeks and 5.0 points and 6.0 rebounds on the last two Saturdays.
• Saint Francis is 1-4 in games decided by three points or less and 1-5  in games decided by five points or less. The team is also 0-2 in overtime.
• Thursday's game marks the 300th game coached by head coach Rob Krimmel at Saint Francis.

offensive rebounds + second chance + points off turnovers = the difference between wins and losses... Saint Francis is +17.4 points per game, +22 rebounds and has three fewer turnovers in its eight wins, while it is -.13.8 points per game, -6.3 offensive rebounds in the 17 losses.
•  Offensive rebounds lead to second chance points and the team is +45 second chance points in victories compared to -25 second chance points in a loss.
• Points off of turnovers can also make a difference and the team is +45 points off turnovers in a win and -39 points off turnovers in a loss.
• In the seven league road games, the opponent has had more rebounds in each game and is +41 in offensive rebounds, while Saint Francis has out rebounded the opponent in four of the seven league home games and is +16 on the offensive glass.

• When one of those players is missing the team is 4-11 and averaging 66.1 points per game.
• Saint Francis had all of its rotational pieces for nine of the 11 non-conference games, but has had a piece missing in 13 of the 14 games in league play.
• The team went from averaging 77.2 points per game in November to 70.4 points per game in December to 62.4 points per game in January, but is averaging 69.0 points per game to start the month of February. The squad was the top scoring team throughout the non-conference season and was ranked in the Top-100 of NCAA Division I.

• The Loretto program has registered a winning season at home from 2014 to 2020, and the squad posted at least a non-losing season in each of those campaigns.
• The Red Flash needs to win its last two games at DeGol Arena to avoid its first losing season at home since going 5-8 in Loretto during the 2013-14 season.
