Men’s Volleyball Defeat the Terriers to Clinch the EIVA Tournament

 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis University men's volleyball defeated the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday in straight sets for the Red Flash to clinch a spot in the EIVA Conference Tournament.
 
Joshua Blair (Matterson, Ill./ Marian Catholic) and Zac Cabral (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) were each honored in Saturday evening's senior ceremony for their accomplishments on and off the court. Each of the seniors put up three blocks a piece for the Red Flash.
 
Nathan Zini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle Catholic) led the Red Flash for the second consecutive game with 18 kills and three serving aces.
 
Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) followed closely behind Zini with 12 kills. While posting a new game best of four blocks.
 
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The biggest turning point of the game was the second set which had to be extended past 25. The set started off as a back-and-forth battle. With the set tied 32-32, back-to-back kills from Liprando secured the extended second set for the Red Flash at a score of 34-32. This gave the Red Flash the momentum they needed to be able to go on and claim the third set to secure the straight set victory.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
The Terriers started off the match by going on a 3-0 run. However, the Red Flash responded with a 4-0 run. A service ace from Zini gave the Saint Francis squad the 4-3 lead to never allow the Terriers to lead again in the first set. A kill from Zini and service error from St. Francis Brooklyn secured the first set for the Red Flash at a score of 25-17. The biggest lead for the Red Flash came in the first set with an eight-point advantage over the Terriers with a score of 23-15.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn claimed its biggest lead of the game in the third set with a four-point lead over the Red Flash to make the score 8-4. However, the Red Flash responded by coming back to tie the set at 10-10 which turned the third set into a back-and-forth battle. With the third set tied 14-14, the Flash went on a 3-0 run to make the score 17-14 and never allow the Terriers to lead again in the match. A kill and service ace from Zini secured the 25-18 third and final set for the Red Flash.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
The Red Flash continue to remain undefeated in the overall series against St. Francis Brooklyn at 3-0.
 
Saturday's victory ended just as Friday's victory over NJIT did, with a service ace from Zini.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will now look towards its last regular season game as the squad looks to take on the Golden Eagles at The University of Charleston on Saturday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m.
