Saint Francis was defeated by Maine at Fort Kent in the team's home opener, 5-1. The Red Flash's lone goal was scored by
Sean Smolyn who headed in a corner kick by
Julian Jakopovic in the 24th minute.
THE WORD ON THE BULLDOGS
The road match will be Yale's 2022 season opener. The Bulldog's went 7-5-4 last season under the direction of head coach Kylie Stannard. Three of the five wins came from nonconference play. The team was voted second in the Ivy League's 2022 Preseason Poll, just behind Princeton.
The program's leading goal scorers Paolo Carroll and Kahveh Zahiroleslam return to The Bulldogs for another season. They both have seven goals apiece, while Carroll has four assists and Zahiroleslam has two, respectively.
The Bulldogs also have goalkeeper Elian Haddock returning for his senior season. Haddock is the Ivy League's reigning Defensive Player of the Year with a save percentage of .768 and led the league with five shutouts.
LAST TIME WE MET
The Red Flash defeated the Bulldogs in New Hampshire at the Dartmouth Tournament almost 15 years ago in a shutout victory, 2-0.
Saturday's matchup with be the second time in program history the teams will be competing against one another.
