Volleyball Secures 3-0 Win Over Stonehill For Conference Opener

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University women's volleyball claimed its first conference win of the season in straight sets over Stonehill on Friday.
 
>> Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) led the Red Flash overall in kills with 17 on the day, while Allison Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) followed closely behind with eight and seven, respectively.
 
>> Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) set 33 assists on Friday for the Red Flash.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
With the first set tied at two, the Red Flash notched a 9-1 run to make the score 11-3 and never allow the Skyhawks to lead again in the first set. A kill from Tyus gave the Red Flash the first set, 25-12. Saint Francis was fueled from claiming the first set to be able to go on and claim the next two sets for the straight set win.

FLASH MOMENTS
The Red Flash started off the second set by carrying over the same momentum from the first for a 7-2 run to start things off. The Skyhawks came back to tie late in the set at 19 to make the remainder of the second set a battle between both teams. With the second set tied at 20, the Red Flash went on a 2-0 run to gain the lead and maintain it for the remainder of the second set. A service ace from Hogan gave the Red Flash the second set, 25-22.
 
The third set was more of a back-and-forth battle early on with eight tied scores and four lead changes. However, with the score 11-10 in favor of the Skyhawks, the Red Flash recorded a 6-1 run to take the lead and maintain it throughout the remainder of the third set. A kill from Tyus, coming off the hands of Maggie Means (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville Area) clinched the third and final set for Saint Francis, 25-20.

FLASH NUGGETS
With today's win, the Red Flash are 1-0 overall against the Skyhawks and in the Northeast Conference.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will continue conference action at home tomorrow, Saturday Sept. 24 by taking on Merrimack at 5:00 p.m.
