Primomo's OT Heroics Power Saint Francis Field Hockey Past Holy Cross, 1-0

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Francesca Primomo (Caledon, Ontario) scored in overtime to propel Saint Francis past Holy Cross 1-0 in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday.
>> Eva Valentini (Junin, Argentina) dished out the decisive goal for the Red Flash.
>> Chloe South (California, Md.) played the final 32:10 minutes of the match with two saves to earn the victory.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
For the second-straight game Saint Francis went to overtime, but this time the Red Flash was the only team to record a shot in the extra session. Valentini found Primomo 130 seconds into the overtime period and buried the shot into the cage to hand the Loretto program its first win of the season.

South also came up big in the fourth quarter with a save at 46:56 and one at 57:34 to help send the game into overtime. The Crusaders also had a pair of shots blocked by the Red Flash defense.

FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis had six penalty corners in the third quarter that resulted in seven shots stopped by the Holy Cross goalkeeper and one blocked by the defense in a span of 95 seconds.

Amber Bryan (Thorndale, Pa.) made her third start of the season in goal and turned away three shots in the first 30 minutes of the match.

FLASH NUGGETS
Primomo appeared in 16 games with two shots before her heroics against the Crusaders on Sunday for a first collegiate goal to remember.

Valentini leads the team with two goals and two assists after fueling the team with eight tallies and six assists for 22 points as a freshman. She has registered a point in three of the four games this season and 13 of the 23 games she has played in her two seasons in Loretto.

South notched her sixth career win for Saint Francis and now has been a part of three shutouts in her career.

The Red Flash were shutout in both games against Holy Cross and Brown with a combined score of 5-0 last year, while this year's edition took both teams to overtime and came away with one victory.

Saint Francis won its first overtime game since defeating Georgetown in a shootout 4-3 on October 17, 2021. Georgetown was also the last team the Red Flash won in overtime that did not end in a shootout with a 2-1 win on Oct. 15, 2019. The Hoyas will be the Red Flash's next opponent.

NEXT GAME
Saint Francis returns to action against Georgetown on Sunday, September 11 for the squad's 2022 DeGol Field debut. Match time is 12 p.m.
