Women's Volleyball Falls in Four to Merrimack

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

TURNING POINT
After Saint Francis won the third set, Merrimack came back with a vengeance in the fourth. The Warriors put up five points before the Red Flash could get on the board, with Eicher opening the scoring for the Red Flash. Merrimack scored three more points before the Red Flash could respond, scoring four of their own to keep it a close 8-5. The Red Flash would not trail the Warriors by more than four points until the end of the set with errors setting up match point for Merrimack at 24-19. A kill by the Warriors ending the match.

FLASH MOMENTS
A kill by Eicher gave the Red Flash momentum, tying set one at 16 apiece. Korrin Burns (Clarion, Pa.) fit the ball outside of the Warriors' defense, taking the lead. Errors by Merrimack furthered the Saint Francis lead to 19-16, but they could not hold on, dropping the first set by just two points.

The Red Flash came out strong in set three. Kori McClure (Westerville, Ohio) got momentum going, sending the ball past the Merrimack defense. With the serve back with Saint Francis, Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) delivered back-to-back serves that the Warriors could not play, adding to the Red Flash lead. Burns sent the ball into the back corner of the Merrimack side, drawing a timeout by the Warriors.

Later in the set, a six-point run by the Red Flash set up a dominating lead. Burns floated the ball over the Merrimack defense to begin the scoring. After an error by the Warriors, Drew Wallech (Hagerstown, M.d.) blocked the Merrimack attack to advance the lead. Eicher drilled the ball, making the score 12-5. Continued errors by Merrimack gave the Red Flash a 14-5 lead and drawing the Warriors' second timeout.

Merrimack attempted a comeback late in the set, but a service error set up set point, bringing Red Flash fans to their feet. Allison Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa.) knocked the ball past the Warriors' defense, winning the third set.

FLASH NUGGETS
Burns was right behind Eicher in kills, earning 17 kills of her own.

Hogan led the Red Flash in service aces with three.

McClure tallied the most blocks for Saint Francis with four assisted blocks. Wallech also recorded one solo and two assisted blocks.

Burns and Eicher earned double-doubles in the match, with Eicher registering 12 digs and Burns with 10. Hogan also had 10 digs in the match.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will return to DeGol Arena on Saturday night, facing Stonehill at 6 p.m. The match will be the team's annual Dig Pink match in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
