>> The Saint Francis women's soccer team's comeback attempt fell just short against Sacred Heart, 3-2.
It did not take long for Sacred Heart to get on the board. Grace O'Hara put one in the back of the net and the Pioneers took off from there.
Goals in the 11th and 15th minutes built a Sacred Heart lead that proved too much for Saint Francis to overcome.
Helbringer-Escobar gave Saint Francis some life with her 29th minute brace to cut the deficit to two. She would draw the Red Flash within one with another goal in the 56th minute
FLASH MOMENTS
Finding themselves in an early hole, Saint Francis attempted to claw their way back into the match over the course of the first half.
Tomke Dziesiaty (Tornesch, Germany) tried to get a goal right back for the Red Flash in the 8th minute, but her shot sailed high.
Moments later, Mercedez Paino (Langhorne, Pa.) tried to make a play when she dribbled along the end line and nearly connected with Lauren Pyle (Lititz, Pa.) on a pass that would've led to a prime opportunity.
In the 28th minute, Savannah Schoonmaker (State College, Pa.) found Dziesiaty down the left wing on a through ball, and Dziesiaty nearly turned it into a scoring chance for Saint Francis, just missing Rita Kendziora (Duncansville, Pa.) on a cross into the box.
Just a minute later, the Red Flash finally broke through when Pyle's cross from a free kick bounced around in the box before landing at the feet of Helbringer-Escobar, who put the chance away to get Saint Francis on the board.
A few minutes after the goal, Pyle nearly cut the Saint Francis deficit in half when she just missed wide on a shot from a free kick.
Just before the end of the half, Pyle sent a cross into the box that nearly found Claire Miko (Medina, Ohio.) and led to a Red Flash corner.
The Red Flash came out of the break with urgency, dominating possession for the opening 15 minutes of the period.
In the 53rd minute, Helbringer-Escobar fired a shot from 25 yards out but was denied. Just three minutes later, she would put one another goal home when she capitalized off of a rebound from a blocked Miko shot.
Pyle tried to equalize just a minute later, but her long shot was saved. She would also have the next big chance for the Red Flash in the 74th minute, but her shot from a free kick sailed high.
FLASH NUGGETS
Helbringer-Escobar's goal in the 29th minute was the first of her career, as well as her first two points.
With Lauren Persichetty (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Miko both notching assists, there is now a four-way tie for the team lead in helpers. Persichetty, Miko, Dziesiaty and Pyle all have three assists on the campaign.
Colletta Ozbey made her first start of the season in the contest. It was her 23rd career start.
