The Saint Francis Bowling team finished Saturday 3-2 in traditional matches, coming out of the second day with a 5-5 overall record while remaining in a similar position heading into tomorrow's three-match bracket round at the AMF Sky Lanes in Orlando, Florida.
EARLY MORNING DUBS
The Red Flash repeated their opening 2-0 record from Friday, beginning their day by defeating Texas Southern and Emmanuel. The competition was unfamiliar to Saint Francis, as the Red Flash had never faced Emmanuel despite both programs being around for over a decade, while Texas Southern last saw the Flash when they fell to a squad coached by Tom Falbo and powered by freshman Ashley Howe-Yorio in 2013.
RANKED WIN
The Red Flash also picked up a victory over No. 22 Tulane, a win coming on the backs of senior
Emma Meade's eight strikes and another strong anchor performance from sophomore
Mackenzie Keane.
AFTERNOON BLUES
The two losses came against two of the top five teams in the nation in No. 2 Arkansas State and No. 5 Stephen F. Austin. Although the Red Flash were able to hang with both teams for the early parts of their matches, they fell to the Red Wolves and Ladyjacks in the third and fifth matches of the day, respectively. The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks lead the 18-team field with both a 10-0 record and a 10,673 total pinfall, while the Red Flash sit in 13th place with a 9,258 total pinfall through the first two days of the tournament.
INCONSISTENT CONSISTENCY
Unlike Friday's baker competition, Coach Bingham and the Red Flash struggled with finding a solid starting group on Saturday. The baker rotation looked strong, with seniors
Kassidy Landwehr,
Emma Meade and
Marissa Metcalfe, sophomore
Mackenzie Keane, and freshman
Hayden Bennett leading the team through three matches. Today, only Keane and senior
Samantha Timm saw time in all five matches, with Keane being the only full-time starter for the Red Flash.
IT'S NOT SO BAD
Considering the challenging competition the Red Flash are facing in Central Florida, their 13th-place positioning puts them above where they were placed in the preseason polls. They are one pin behind No. 23 Delaware State, and they have a chance to make up some ground in the three matches on Sunday.
SATURDAY SCOREBOARD
SFU 945, Texas Southern 915
SFU 1041, Emmanuel 979
No. 2 Arkansas State 970, SFU 778
SFU 951, No. 22 Tulane 931
No. 5 Stephen F. Austin 1025, SFU 896
Total Pinfall: 9,258 (13th)
LOOK AHEAD TO SUNDAY
The Red Flash compete against three teams in the bracket round to determine their final standing in the tournament. Saint Francis will be competing against teams who had similar performances this weekend, likely setting up rematches with Emmanuel (11th), No. 23 Delaware State (12th), Monmouth (14th) and Texas Southern (15th).
