Three Players Score Double Figures in Women’s Basketball’s Loss to Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J.  – Saint Francis University women's basketball fell on the road to Big Ten opponent Rutgers, 80-51. Yanessa Boyd, Kendall Carruthers and Destini Ward all scored in double figures during the game.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Carruthers had a game-high 19 points on 6-of-12 from the field. She added two steals and one block.
» Ward scored 14 points on 5-of-12 from the field with four rebounds and five steals.
» Boyd went 5-of-12 from the field with 12 points and added one block and one steal.
» Lisa Thompson led the Scarlet Knights with 16 points on 5-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 from three.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Saint Francis took an early 5-2 lead before Rutgers put up and 22-2 run and led 24-7 after the first quarter. In the second, Rutgers jumped out to a 33-13 lead midway through before Saint Francis closed the half on a 9-2 run and cut the deficit to 35-22.
 
The Red Flash trailed by as many as 25 points in the third quarter before the Scarlet Knights took a 22-point, 62-40, lead at the end of the frame. In the fourth, Rutgers led by as many as 30 points before clinching its 29-point victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
Carruthers and Boyd both produced the first double-digit scoring performance of their respective careers. Carruthers' 19 was the most by a Red Flash player this season.
 
Ward's five steals were the most in a single game since Ace Harrison had seven on March 4, 2018 against Wagner.
 
With five rebounds each, Marina Artero and Harris Robinson led the team for the second time this season.
