Freshmen Continue to Lead Scoring in Women’s Basketball’s Loss at Loyola Maryland


BALTIMORE, Md.  – Saint Francis University women's basketball dropped its Thanksgiving Eve showdown at Loyola Maryland 53-45.  
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Kendall Carruthers dropped 16 points with six rebounds, two assists and one steal.
» Yanessa Boyd had 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting with two rebounds, one block and two steals.
» Marina Artero had a team-high seven rebounds and added five points.
» Loyola Maryland's Lex Therien had a game-high 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Saint Francis and Loyola Maryland were tied 10-10 after the first quarter and within three points the entire frame. The Red Flash began the second quarter on an 8-2 run and took an 18-12 lead with four minutes remaining before a 7-0 run by the Greyhounds had them up 19-18 at the half.
 
Loyola Maryland opened the third quarter on a 13-2 run and opened a 12-point, 32-20 lead. After the Greyhounds led 36-27 after three quarters, Saint Francis twice cut the deficit to six points, which included 47-41 with 3:30 remaining. With Saint Francis unable to inch any closer than six points, Loyola Maryland clinched its victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
Carruthers' 16-point game raised her season total to 11 points per game. She has two double-digit scoring efforts through her first five collegiate games.
 
Boyd scored 12 points in her second consecutive game and raised her season average to 9.4 per game. She has scored at least eight points in four of the five games this season.
 
Saint Francis now produced 10 or more steals as a team in two consecutive games.
