Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gregory Sinks Three Free Throws To Propel Saint Francis Men's Basketball To 62-61 Win At Lehigh

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Cam Gregory (Accokeek, Md.) drained three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt with 10 seconds left to give Saint Francis a 62-61 lead to cap an 8-0 run to end the game. Lehigh had a 3-point attempt in the waning seconds of the game come up way short and freshman Aidan Harris (Annapolis, Md.) came down with his 15th rebound of the game to secure the win for the Red Flash in non-conference men's basketball action on Wednesday.
>> With the win, head coach Rob Krimmel earned his 150th career win as a head coach.
>> The 15 rebounds by Harris are the second most boards by a freshman under Krimmel, while Gregory finished the game with nine points.
>> Aaron "Ace" Talbert (Wyandanch, N.Y.) paced Saint Francis with 12 points, while Bobby Rosenberger III (Quakertown, Pa.) added 11 points and Eli Wilborn (Middletown, Conn.) chipped in 10 points.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
After Talbert tied the game at 49 on a 3-pointer with 5:54 left, the Mountain Hawks went on a 12-5 run to take a 61-54 lead with 1:54 left, but those two free throws with 1:54 remaining would be the last points Lehigh would score on the night.

Talbert started the decisive run with the backend of two free throws at 1:42 before Rosenberger drained two charity tosses of his own with 51 seconds left. Gestin Liberis (Havertown, Pa.) then got a defensive rebound and cleaned up a Red Flash miss with 22 seconds left. The Mountain Hawks then missed two free throws to keep it a two-point game at 61-59 before Gregory was fouled attempting a 3-pointer with 10 ticks remaining. The sophomore captain then sank all three free throws to give Saint Francis the lead it would not relinquish.

FLASH QUOTES

"If you didn't have a rooting interest in this game, this was a great college basketball game. We knew that we would have to give it our everything. For us to be one-point ahead is a credit to those guys in that locker room. We had to make it ugly, turning the ball over 21 times is a bit much and we had been pretty good with that. I thought we did a great job rebounding and then Cam Gregory making three free throws was clutch for us." – head coach Rob Krimmel on the game

"Cam is our leader. He is the guy with the most experience and the great thing was that other guys stepped up. He was carrying us really well in the first seven games of the season. He blocked everything out and made those free throws that was really big for us." – Krimmel on Gregory's play

"It's a big win for you guys. I'm happy for you guys. It's about stringing plays together, possession together and stringing games together. When everybody has a passion for something and is pulling in the same direction the sky is the limit. When you are pulling to the middle that passion and that togetherness the results are what you just saw so remember this feeling." – Krimmel on the win

FLASH MOMENTS

Trailing 7-2, the Red Flash went on a 14-2 run that included a 10-0 run grab a 16-9n advantage midway through the first half.

Talbert opened the spurt with a trey at 16:15 and a layup at 15:03 to tie the game at 7. Gregory gave the Red Flash its first lead of the night on a layup at 14:33 before Rosenberger knocked down his first triple of the night 14 seconds later for a 12-7 edge. After the Mountain Hawks stopped the 10-0 with a dunk, Wisler Sanon and Gregory each posted baskets for a seven-point advantage with 9:54 remaining in the first half.

Lehigh came back to take a three-point lead, before Rosenberger drained his second basket from downtown with 65 seconds left in the half to even the score at 27.

In the second half, Saint Francis erased a five-point margin with seven unanswered points to take a 41-39 lead with 10:43 on the clock. Wilborn started the spurt with two free throws at 13:06 before Talbert hit a jumper at 12:11 and Miles Webb (Arlington, Va.) scored in the lane after a Talbert offensive rebound at 10:43 for the two-point edge.

Lehigh then grabbed a 45-42 edge before the Frankies scored the next four points to take a 46-45 lead thanks to two free throws by Carlos Lopez, Jr. (Egg Harbor Township, Pa.) at 8:31 and a Wilborn slam down at 6:56. Talbert then tied the game one more time on a 3-ball at 5:54 before the Mountain Hawks went their run to set up the Saint Francis late game heroics.

FLASH NUGGETS
Krimmel, who is in his 12th season, earned his 150th career win almost four years to the day that he earned his 100th career win. Krimmel's Flash defeated Saint Joseph's 79-68 on November 30, 2019, for his 100th career win. He coached his 150th career game at DeGol Arena on Saturday and has won 60 percent of his games in Loretto but has registered his latest two milestones on the road in the eastern part of the state.

Harris' 15 rebounds are the second-most boards in a game by a freshman under Krimmel. Keith Braxton is the only other player to haul in 13 or more boards as a freshman and he turned the trick four times in 2016-17. Braxton holds the freshmen mark in both points and rebounds in a single game by a freshman, with his 19-board performance against Stony Brook on December 17, 2016 being the standard. Braxton finished the game against the Seawolves with three points and Harris ended the game against Lehigh with three points. It is also the most rebounds in a game since Mark Flagg had 17 carioms against George Washington on November 9, 2021.

Talbert registered his third double-figure performance in his last four games, including his first one on the road. The freshman is averaging 13.7 points per game in that stretch, including 15.3 points per game in the team's three wins.

Rosenberger, who grew up in the Lehigh Valley near Lehigh University in Quakertown, posted his second double-figure game of his career and his second straight on the road. Rosenberger had a career-high 19 points in the Frankies last road game at Penn State on November 14. The freshman also hauled in five rebounds, his second-highest total since he had eight boards against the Nittany Lions.

Wilborn added 10 points for the third time in the last four games and all three have come in wins by the Loretto program. The freshman stuffed the stat sheet with three rebounds, two blocks, a steal and a career-high three assists. He now has nine blocks on the season, which are already fourth most by a freshman under Krimmel.

Lopez matched his career high of eight points that he set in the season-opener at UCLA, while Liberis finished the game with two points and five rebounds.

Saint Francis is now 8-3 in what Assistant Coach Eric Taylor calls "a one-point blowout" under Krimmel. This was the first time in his 12 seasons the Red Flash has played a non-conference regular season game by one point. NOTE: The team has won two Northeast Conference Tournament games by one point, but those games count as non-conference games. It was also just the third time the squad has played a one-point game on the road and the first time since Braxton's buzzer beater at Wagner in the 2016-17 postseason.

Saint Francis has won three of its last four games and defeated the Mountain Hawks on their home floor for the second-straight contest.
