Men’s Volleyball Falls Short in Five at LIU

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University men's volleyball took a loss over a five set back-and-forth battle at LIU on Saturday.
 
>> The Red Flash claimed sets two and three, but LIU came away with sets one and four to extend the game to five sets.
 
>> Trevor Lewis (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) notched his first career double-double in Saturday's game by leading the Red Flash with 23 kills and 12 digs.
 
>> Brandon Dunz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) and Ryan Parker (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) led the team with four total blocks a piece.
 
>> Parker (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) also led the team as the setter with a new career high of 55 assists on the night.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
With the game tied at two, the fifth set was the final turning point of this back-and-forth game. The Red Flash held the Sharks from taking the lead until a 4-0 run gave LIU the lead. The fifth set tied a total of 12 times. However, a 2-0 run featuring a final replay review gave LIU the final set, 21-19.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
The Sharks controlled the entire first set to get on the board first and hold the lead throughout the entire set. A 3-0 run pushed LIU to earn the first set, 25-17.
 
The second set was the exact opposite from the first in that the Red Flash got on the board first in set two and never allowed the Sharks to lead in the set. A kill from Liprando gave the Red Flash the second set, 25-17.
 
The Red Flash continued its momentum into the third set to gain an early 7-2 lead over the Sharks. However, LIU came back to take the lead mid-set, but the Red Flash responded with a 5-0 run to regain the lead and hold it for the remainder of the third set. Saint Francis notched set three, 25-20.
 
The Sharks got on the board first in the fourth set with a 4-1 run to never allow Saint Francis to take the lead in set four. The Red Flash came back to tie the set later on at 22, but LIU responded with a 3-0 run to take the fourth set, 25-22 and extend the game.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
As a team, the Red Flash collected eight total service aces on Saturday.
 
Dunz recorded a career high of 10 kills in Saturday's game.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will return to Loretto, Pa for a four-game NEC home stanza beginning with Sacred Heart on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
