Track and Field To Open Outdoor Season at Trojan Challenge

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> The Saint Francis University outdoor track and field teams will open the 2023 outdoor season at the Trojan Challenge hosted by the University of Mount Olive Friday, March 24 – Saturday, March 25.
 
>> Saint Francis will be sending 34 women and 33 men to compete in seven field events, seven track events and two relays.
 
>> Field events are set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Complex. Thursday. Friday's events will begin at 10 a.m. beginning with the discus.
 
>> This meet will be scored: 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The top nine finishers in the preliminary rounds will move on to the finals.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash ended their indoor season at the IC4A/ECAC Championships over two weeks ago. The men finished seventh at the championships with 34 points. Nickolas Hyde defended his indoor shot put for the second consecutive year. Ardonntrell Williams took second in the 60m hurdles.

LOOKING FORWARD TO 2023
Douglas Hoover returns for his 11th season as the head coach of the Saint Francis track and field programs. Hoover is coming off of back-to-back women's outdoor track and field NEC championship titles. The women won the championship in 2022 with 175 points.
 
The Red Flash women collected 16 podium finishes, a school record and Most Outstanding Field Performer last season. The Red Flash men recorded 14 top-eight performances.
 
The track and field teams will compete at six regular season meets this season, including a home meet on Saturday, April 29 which will also be Senior Day. The NEC Championship will be Saturday, May 6 – Sunday, May 7.
 
This weekend's road trip will the Red Flash's first time competing at the Trojan Challenge.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for the Virginia Triangular hosted by the University of Virginia Saturday, April 1.
