Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Sacred Heart in Fairfield

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University men's volleyball defeated the Pioneers of Sacred Heart on Friday over straight sets in Fairfield, Conn.

>> Brandon Dunz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) led the team on the defensive end by notching 6.0 total blocks. Trevor Lewis (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) followed closely behind with 4.0 total blocks.
 
>> Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Thomas Leahey (State College, Pa./State College Area) led the Red Flash with two service aces apiece in Friday's win.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The first set was a very close game between the Red Flash and Pioneers featuring eight tied scores in set one alone. With Saint Francis down 15-14 in the first set, the team notched a 3-0 run to take the lead and hold it throughout the remainder of set one. An attack error from Sacred Heart gave Saint Francis the first set, 25-20. Claiming set one gave Saint Francis the momentum to go on and win the next two sets for the straight set victory.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
Set two was very similar to set one with both teams going back-and-forth early on. However, with the Red Flash down 10-12 in set two, the team recorded a 4-0 run to take the lead and hold it for the rest of the set. This run featured a kill from Liprando, followed by three consecutive blocks from Dunz, Lewis and Liprando.
 
The Pioneers got on the board first in the third set, but that was quickly ended with a 6-2 run from the Red Flash to take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the game. Saint Francis led by as many as 12 points in the final set. A service error from Sacred Heart gave Saint Francis the 25-13 third set.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
Five different Red Flash men's volleyball players notched a service ace in Friday night's victory over the Pioneers.
 
Friday's straight set victory was the seventh of the season for the Red Flash.
