Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Sain Francis Women's Lacrosse Notches 10th Win Of The Season Thanks To 17-11 Win Against St. Bonaventure

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> It's hard to top a week scoring 15 times and adding four assists for 19 points, but graduate student Autumn McHenry (Branford, Conn.) continues to amaze the DeGol Field faithful with her performances. The current Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week registered six goals and one assist for seven points, while adding six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 17-11 win against St. Bonaventure in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
>> The graduate student registered two more career milestones. With her goal with 8:17 left in the fourth quarter she crossed the 200-point plateau. In addition, with her ground ball off a turnover she created with 8:45 left in the first half, McHenry reached 100 ground balls in her career.
>> One game after becoming the program's freshmen leader in goals, Bella Fisher (Duxbury, Mass.) topped the freshmen points chart after scoring six times against the Bonnies. The freshman now has a program-record 46 points in her first season.
>> Danielle Hernandez (New Fairfield, Conn.) added four goals and two assists, while Chyler Espino (San Francisco, Calif.) hauled in a career-high 10 draw controls to sit sixth on the single-game chart.
>> Elyssa Enrique (North Canton, Ohio) made 13 saves.
>> The Red Flash now has won a program-record 10 games and are riding a program-record six-game winning streak.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
With the score tied at 1, McHenry scored three of the next four goals to give the Red Flash the lead for good at 4-2. The graduate student scored at 11:05 and 10:27 for a 3-1 lead. A Bonnies tally halted her chance for her second natural hat trick in as many games, but the graduate student still notched her third goal of the first quarter at 5:22 for a 4-2 lead after one quarter.

FLASH QUOTES
"In a season full of milestones, winning 10 games definitely ranks as one of the best moments of the season. We went into the game with key players out due to injuries, which meant in order to win everyone needed to rise to the occasion. Things got even crazier when we got into card trouble early in game. The team did an amazing job handling the pressure. A big highlight was the attack shooting 9/9 from the eight meter. Defensively we also played a really solid game. We did a nice job limiting the scoring opportunities of their top players. At the end of the day, we found a way to win. That's what championship teams do. We'll use the break in the schedule to rest & recover so we're ready to beat Wagner on Senior Day." – head coach Tracy Coyne on the game

FLASH MOMENTS
Fisher started the scoring in the first and second quarter. The freshman twinkled the twine for the first score of the match at 12:42 and then found the twine off a Kelly Dickson (Blue Bell, Pa.) with 14:44 left in the second quarter. Fisher added her third marker of the half unassisted at 1:03 left in the frame.

Hernandez found the twine twice in the second quarter unassisted at 13:36 and with 0:46 left in the frame. McHenry added her fourth goal of the half with 4:33 left to help the Red Flash go into halftime with a 10-4 advantage.

Hernandez registered the first two goals of the second half for Saint Francis at 10:56 and 3:13. McHenry dished out an assist to Dickson at 2:07 before Fisher tickled the twine with 1:07 left in the third frame for a 14-6 edge after 45 minutes.

Fisher notched the first goal in a quarter for the third time on the afternoon to start the fourth with 32 seconds into the quarter. McHenry then scored twice in the final nine minutes at 8:17 and 3:01 for a 17-11 victory.

FLASH NUGGETS
McHenry now has 127 goals and 74 assists for 201 points in her collegiate career. She is the second player in program history to register 200 points in a Red Flash uniform and currently ranks second in assists and fourth in goals. She is two assists away from tying the program record in assists. Danielle Conwell is the only other player to register 200 points in a career. McHenry also has moved into second place on the program's single-season chart with 49 tallies, sitting one behind Conwell's 2012 mark of 50 in a season. Her 65 points this season are third-most in single-season history and Conwell also holds the mark with 73 from that 2012 season. Her 75 draw controls are one more than she had last season and are the third-most in single-season history and her 24 caused turnovers are fourth in single-season history. After not registering a game with more than four goals until her six-goal performance against FDU one week ago, the graduate student has registered 21 tallies in the last eight days.

Just like McHenry, Fisher has posted some of her best numbers in her last couple of games. The four-time NEC Rookie of the Week registered six goals in a game for the second-straight game and etched her name in the record books as a freshman for the second time in as many matches. After surpassing the freshmen goal record on Saturday at CCSU, Fisher broke the freshmen points record with 46 points in a season. Her 40 tallies this season sit just out of the program's overall Top-10 for goals in a season.

Hernandez has moved into fifth place on the program's single-season chart with 23 helpers, one off second place and four off the single-season record. The junior has 32 goals and 23 assists this season for 55 points, the eighth most in single-season history.

Espino marks the 14th time a player has corralled 10 draw controls in a single game and the fifth different player, joining McHenry, Amanda Heidt, Katie Simmons and Emileigh Scott, who hauled in 10 or more draw controls nine times in her career. Espino bests her previous career mark of seven draws against Kent State last season.

Bella Burke (East Moriches, N.Y.) paced the defense with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. The freshman has registered 15 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers in her last four games. Her 20 caused turnovers rank third on the freshmen single-season list and three away from the freshmen record, while her 29 ground balls are third most by a freshmen in a single season and five away from the program record.

The Red Flash set a program record for points in a season with 286 points, while the 197 goals and 89 assists this season both currently rank second on the single-season charts. The team is also fourth in draw controls (215), fifth in caused turnovers (124) and 10th in ground balls (266) in single-season history.

NEXT TIME OUT
Saint Francis wraps up the regular season against Wagner on April 29. Match time is 12 p.m. The Red Flash will honor the 2023 senior class before the game.
