Women's Outdoor Track and Field Wins Third Consecutive NEC Championship

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University women's outdoor track and field team won their third consecutive Northeast Conference title with 147 points at Merrimack's Duane Stadium in North Andover, Massachusetts. 

>> The men finished in third place with 135 points behind CCSU who had 141 points and Wagner with 166 points. This is the best finish for the men since the team won the conference title in 2019.

>> This is the tenth time in program history that both the men's and women's teams have finished in the top-three in the same year and only the second time in the last decade. 

>> In the last two decades, the women's outdoor track and field team have won the conference title five times ('03, '05, '21, '22, '23). 
 
>> Madeline Murphy was named Most Outstanding Field Performer – Jumps and Most Valuable Performer after sweeping the horizontal jumps and breaking her own Saint Francis records in both jumps. The Cresson, Pa. native leapt 5.99m in the long jump and 12.69m in the triple jump to earn 20 points for the Red Flash women. In addition to owning all the horizontal jump records at SFU, the senior can also add being the new owner of the NEC's triple jump record, which was set 17 years ago. 

>> Julian Saunders was named Most Outstanding Track Performer - Sprints after winning gold in the 100m dash (10.47), 4x100m relay (40.97) and placing second in the 200m dash (21.32). The sophomore racked up 21.25 points for the Red Flash men over the weekend. In addition to his accolades, Saunders is the new owner of the 100m dash SFU record. The previous record of 10.59 was held by James Bush, who set the record in 2008.
 
>> The Red Flash won a combined seven events and recorded 53 top-eight performances at the championships.

FLASH WOMEN NUGGETS
The Red Flash women compiled five event victories and 27 top-eight performances to contribute to the team's 147 point total.
 
Stanavich won the 400m hurdles with a career best time of 1:02.07 and placed second in the 100m hurdles. The Amsterdam, N.Y. compiled 19.25 points for the team.
 
Olivia Conrad took the gold in the javelin, throwing a career best 42.70m.
 
Caroline Ratchford had a season best clearance of 1.64m in the high jump to take the event victory. Tierney Beebout placed third in the event with a clearance of 1.58m.
 
Rhoda Alaban-Tafon placed third in the 400m dash with a season best time of 56.98.
 
Carly Sedun took third in the discus with a career best mark of 40.11m. Sedun also took second in the hammer throw with a throw of 48.57m.
 
The 4x800m relay team of Mariclare Anderson, Emma Fleck, Tesslyn Helms and Monica Gregg took the silver with a time of 9:23.23.

Vittoria LaRosa placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.45m.

FLASH MEN NUGGETS
The Red Flash men won four events and recorded 26 top performances to take third in North Andover.
 
The 4x100m relay team of Bryce Baker, Ardonntrell Williams, Saunders and David Niang won the event with a time of 40.97.
 
Williams also won the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.83. Niang finished in third with a time of 14.10.
 
Rounding out the victors for the Red Flash men is Nickolas Hyde, who defended his shot put title for the third consecutive year with a toss of 17.38m. Dustin Hyde took third with a mark of 16.37m.

Senior Ryan Harman placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.55m. Fellow senior Parker Hilaman also placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.66m.

The Red Flash will shift their focus to the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Fairfax, Virginia Saturday, May 13 – Sunday, May 14.
