2023 Football Season Preview

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University football looks towards the 2023 season, which begins on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at Western Michigan, fresh off a historic 2022 campaign.

Offense
Saint Francis is led by the return of 2022 Walter Payton Award Finalist and Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Cole Doyle. His 169.6 passing efficiency last season set a program record and ranked fifth in the FCS. He finished fourth in single-season program history with 21 passing touchdowns and had 1,931 passing yards. The backfield returns four of the top five rushers from 2022, led by QuaSean Holmes' 479 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Dawson Snyder leads the wide receiver group with 38 catches, 758 and four touchdowns last season. His 19.95 yards per reception finished 10th in the FCS. An offensive line that ranked 11th in the FCS with 1.08 sacks against per game returns four-of-five starters, led by All-NEC selections Bailey Iboleon and Seth Osborne. In 2022, Saint Francis set a team record in total touchdowns (54), passing touchdowns (30) and total points (35.9).

William Middleton is the leading tackler amongst returners after he recorded 37 total (22 solo) last season. Eddie Bierals leads returners in tackles-for-loss after his 7.5 total last season. The 2022 defense finished ninth in the FCS in passing yards allowed per game (177), 18th in total yards allowed per game (333), 19th in red zone defense (75 percent) and 20th in points against (21.5).

Aidan Cirulli appeared in one game last season against Georgetown and recorded four punts for a 36.8-yard average. Kicker Macrae Plummer appeared in one game against Duquesne and had three kickoffs for a 59.7-yard average. Long snapper Lucas Winters returns to the team in 2023 for his sophomore season.
