>> The Saint Francis women's soccer team dropped their conference opener to Central Connecticut State, 2-1.
>> The Red Flash registered four shots in the game.
The game was tightly contested from the opening whistle, Aoife Horgan hooked in a goal that bounced off high right post, just out of the reach of McConnon to put the Blue Devils in front in the 80th minute.
The Blue Devils would score another just four minutes later, giving them enough of a lead to hold off a late push by the Red Flash.
FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis was in their own end for much of the first half, but made several excellent plays to keep the game level.
In the 13th minute, one of the top goal scorers in the nation so far, Giavanna Inzerillo had a chance right in front of the net, and McConnon denied it with an excellent kick save.
McConnon made several proactive plays and saves on dangerous Blue Devil chances, including a sliding clearance in a one-on-one chance.
Caterina Schiavo (Sicklerville, N.J) and Colletta Ozbey (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Lauren Persichetty (Staten Island, N.Y.) all stepped up and cut off dangerous chances with quality defensive plays
The Red Flash were chasing two goals late in the game when Raine Korpics was fouled in the box and converted the penalty she drew.
Korpics and Noa Dorah made a push to try and tie the game in the dying seconds, but they ran out of time.
FLASH NUGGETS
With ten saves on the afternoon, McConnon posted the second highest save total of her career.
Saint Francis has now generated at least three corner kicks in five of their eight games so far this season. They had seven today.
