Men’s Soccer Opens NEC Play With 1-0 Victory Over Stonehill

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Saint Francis men's soccer opened up Northeast Conference play Thursday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Stonehill at Skyhawk Field.

The Red Flash remain undefeated with an overall record of 3-0-4 and 1-0 in the NEC.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
Saint Francis kept pressing for the first goal of the match in the second half and were finally able to break through in the 78th minute when Julian Jakopovic (Stuttgart, Germany) scored his first collegiate goal after an Andre Isreal (Clarksburg, Md.) cross attempt to Dallan Schoenberger (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was headed away by a Stonehill defender.

The ball got away from the defender where Jakopovic took the opening and launched a shot to beat the Skyhawk's goalkeeper to the lower right corner capitalizing on the Red Flash's only shot on goal of the match.

FLASH MOMENT
Just 11 minutes into the first half, Jordaine Jaeger (Munich, Germany) attempted to make a sliding save, but the Skyhawk's were able to drill a shot past him. Schoenberger denied the Skyhawk's midfielder a possible goal after blocking the ball with his shoulder to go out of bounds.

FLASH NUGGETS
>> Stonehill held the 13-11 lead in shots and 7-1 shots on goal. The Red Flash had the 4-2 edge in corners.

>> Eight different players accounted for the Red Flash's 11 shot attempts. Jakopovic, Mikey Chiha (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Milan Djajic (Belgrade, Serbia) all had two shots a piece.

>> Jaeger registered a season high seven saves in the match to earn his third straight clean sheet and eighth of his career.

>> Freshman Alex De Nittis (Unna, Germany) made his collegiate debut against the Skyhawks in the final 10 minutes of the match.
