Football Falls in Hard-Fought Battle to Sacred Heart in the Conference Opener

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University football dropped its home and conference opener to Sacred Heart 37-34 on a field goal as time expired.
 
What You Need to Know
» Cole Doyle went 16-of-28 with three passing touchdowns, one interception and added 13 rushes for 75 yards.
» Damon Horton recorded 12 rushes for 80 yards and one touchdown and added three receptions for 33 yards and one touchdown.
» Casey McKinney and Aaron Tutino each recorded one receiving touchdown.
» Carter Glassmyer recorded a season-high 16 total tackles and added one tackle for loss.
» Eddie Bierals recorded two tackles for loss, with one sack, which were both his first of the season.
 
Turning Points of the Game
Saint Francis scored the first 10 points of the game on a Mac Plummer field goal and Horton three-yard touchdown run. Sacred Heart responded with a touchdown in the final minute of the first quarter and cut the lead to 10-7.
 
McKinney responded on the next drive with a 13-yard touchdown catch and opened a 17-7 lead. After a Sacred Heart touchdown, kicker Sam Renzi hit two field goals in the final minute of the first half to give the Pioneers a 20-17 lead at the half.
 
The Pioneers scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the half before Horton responded with his second touchdown of the game. Down 27-24, Plummer hit a 26-yard field goal with 9:09 remaining in the game that tied the game.
 
Sacred Heart's Malik Grant scored a touchdown with 5:37 remaining, before Tutino
Tied the game with 2:29 remaining. On the final drive of the game, kicker Renzi converted a 40-yard field to clinch Sacred Heart's 37-34 victory.
 
Flash Nuggets
Glassmyer's 16 tackles were the most in a single game for Saint Francis since Austin Miele recorded 18 on Nov. 12, 2011 at Bryant. He is the first Saint Francis player with at least 15 total tackles since Martin Foray's 15 against Sacred Heart on Nov. 6, 2021.
 
Horton recorded the first multi-touchdown game of his career and his first receiving touchdown. His 80 rushing yards were the most by a Saint Francis player this season.
 
Pierre Royster (nine), Bierals (eight), Gavin Thomas (seven) and Desmond Harrod (six) all topped five total tackles and set new career-high marks.
 
Tutino recorded a career-high mark with three catches, 35 yards and his first collegiate touchdown.
