The Saint Francis men's soccer team (1-0-2) returns home Tuesday afternoon for their first of three straight home matches at Stokes Soccerplex as they welcome the Robert Morris Colonials for a nonconference battle. Tuesday's match will air on NEC Front Row at 3:00 p.m.
Saint Francis played nonconference Wright State in Dayton, Ohio in a 3-3 competitive draw on Saturday. Sophomore
Mikey Chiha scored the opening goal of the match in the fifth minute.
Freshman
Álvaro Planas scored his second career goal in the 34th minute.
Joschi Schelb scored the match equalizer in the 55th minute, gathering four points on the match.
THE WORD ON THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris comes into Tuesday's match 2-0-1 overall under head coach Jonathan Potter. Potter is in his first season with the Colonials but spent the last seven seasons as the head coach at Presbyterian. Robert Morris opened the season with dominate 5-0 home victory over VMI before drawing 1-1 Niagara. The Colonials are coming off a 3-2 win against Bucknell on Friday night.
Robert Morris is led offensively by junior Gabe Norris who has two goals and three shots on the season. The Colonials also return 2022 leading goal scorer Chase Gilley who scored the match winner against Bucknell.
Freshman goalkeeper Kieran Gorgenyi has started every match for the Colonials this season. Gorgenyi has five saves on the season and has only allowed three goals which is tied for second in the Horizon League.
Last season the Colonials finished 6-7-3 overall. The team lost to Oakland in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament in penalty kicks.
Robert Morris was picked to finish eighth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll.
LAST TIME WE MET
The Red Flash and Colonials are 15-15-2 all-time against each other since 1991. Last season, Saint Francis dropped a road match against Robert Morris, 1-0. Saint Francis has won the last six home matches against Robert Morris dating back to 2011.
