Zavaleta's Fourth-Quarter Score Lifts Saint Francis Field Hockey Past Lock Haven, 2-1

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Dolores Zavaleta (San Juan, Argentina) scored with six minutes and 29 seconds left to lift Saint Francis past Lock Haven 2-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday.
>> Marie Sattler (Kaiserslautern, Germany) also found the back of the cage, while Madison Waldspurger (Hatfield, Pa.) registered an assist on Zavaleta's decisive score.
>> The Red Flash ended a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2 on the year. The record is the third-best start in program history, matching head coach Maria Bettiana Ceretta's first two seasons (2017, 2018) as a head coach.

TURNING POINTS
After the Bald Eagles tied the score at 50:10, the Loretto program was awarded a penalty corner. Sattler inserted the ball to Waldspurger, who found Zavaleta in front of the cage at 53:41 for the game-winner. Lock Haven did not have a shot in the final six minutes and 29 seconds.

FLASH MOMENTS
Sattler broke a scoreless result when she knocked in a rebounded save off the stick of Waldspurger at 39:32 for a 1-0 lead.

The lead stood for a little over 10 minutes before the Bald Eagles even the score only to see Zavaleta net her first game-winner of the season and third of her career.

FLASH NUGGETS
With her tally, Zavaleta takes over the team lead with three goals and one assist for seven points. The junior has registered a point in three-straight matches and four times in the first six games of the season. Last season, Zavaleta recorded a point in five-straight games.

Sattler notched her second goal of the season at home and ranks second on the team with two tallies and two assists for six points. In her two games at DeGol Field, Sattler has posted two goals and one helper for five points, while her only point on the road was an assist on the game-winner against Bellarmine on August 31.

Waldspurger has posted a point in every other game over the last five matches with a goal and two assists for four points on the season to rank sixth on the squad. After posting four goals and an assist as a freshman, Waldspurger has five tallies and three assists for 13 points in her career.

Amber Bryan (Thorndale, Pa.) made one save in 60 minutes to earn her third win of the season.

The 4-2 start is the third-best start in program history, trailing the six-game start of 6-0 in 2014 and 5-1 start in 2016.

The Red Flash has won nine of the last 12 meetings against Lock Haven in the series, including five of the last six meetings in Loretto.

The 2-0 start is the best start at home since 2016 and marks the fifth time (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2023) in team history the squad has won its first two games at DeGol Field to start the season.
