TURNING POINT
Mercyhurst held the lead through most of the third set, but a four-point run by the Red Flash locked up the win. Trailing 23-21,
Laney Wilson got the ball past the Lakers back row. Burns sent the ball off the hands of Mercyhurst's block attempt, evening the score. From the middle,
Drew Wallech earned match point, before an ace by
Raegan Rosi claimed the win for the Red Flash.
FLASH MOMENTS
Tied at 18 apiece in the first set, Saint Francis took advantage of errors by the Lakers in addition to two great kills by Burns to advance to a 22-18 lead. Burns landed a hard ball to the middle of Mercyhurst's side to earn set point at a 24-20 score. The Lakers narrowed the lead to three points, but
Maggie Hogan placed the ball just inside to win the first set.
The Red Flash picked up an early lead in the second frame, winning the set 25-19. Blocks by Burns and
Kori McClure drew a timeout by Mercyhurst at 23-17. After a Saint Francis error, Burns beat the Lakers' block for set point. Mercyhurst tried to take advantage of another error by the Red Flash, but Burns nailed the ball from the attack line, taking the two-set lead.
FLASH NUGGETS
Alexandra Sappia earned 34 assists to lead Saint Francis.
Burns led the team in aces with four.
Wilson tallied three solo blocks, a team-most.
Saint Francis was led in digs by Rosi with 12.
