SELECT GAME NOTES VS. MOUNT ST. MARY'SÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Saturday's game between Saint Francis and Mount St. Mary's marks the 89th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1914-15 season.
• It will be the first non-conference regular season game in Emmitsburg between the two former conference rivals since January 21, 1958. Last year's game in Loretto was the first non-conference game since January 21, 1959.
• It will be the 20th non-conference regular-season meeting between the two teams, while the Mount holds a 54-34 series advantage in the overall series and a 33-12 edge in Emmitsburg.
• Mount St. Mary's has won the last five tilts in the series after the Loretto program swept the season series in 2018-19 and 2019-20 to register a four-game winning streak for only the second time.
• This season marks the 70th Anniversary of the 1954-55 Saint Francis team that advanced to the National Invitation Tournament Final Four led by Frankies' legend Maurice Stokes. Mount St. Mary's is one of three teams that are a part of the 2024-25 schedule that the Red Flash also played 70 years ago. The game was on December 13, 1954, and was the only time Stokes visited Emmitsburg. The Mount won the game to give the Frankies its second consecutive loss, a feat that only happened once that year in the regular season. The significance of this game for the Mount is that it's believed to be when legendary head coach Jim Phelan began to wear his trademark bowtie.
• First-year Saint Francis assistant coach
Devin Sweetney played his final collegiate game at Knott Arena in a 65-50 loss in the Northeast Conference Quarterfinals on March 4, 2010. Sweetney led the Red Flash with 21 points and seven rebounds in his final collegiate game. Sweetney averaged 16.2 points per game in five games at Knott Arena in his career, with two 21-point performances.
• The Red Flash is 8-18 all-time against the MAAC with a 1-12 record on the road. The last win against a MAAC school was a 79-73 win against Niagara on November 30, 2018. The only win on the road against the conference was also against the Purple Eagles, with a 93-87 victory in upstate New York on December 10, 2017. Saint Francis will also play Niagara on the road on December 14.
• This game ends a five-game road trip to start the season, tying the program record for most extended road trip to start a campaign. The 1964-65 team also started the year with five away from Loretto.
• The Red Flash hosts Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday for its home opener.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the team's first regular season non-conference win at Mount St. Mary's since January 21, 1958Â
• End a five-game losing streak against the Mount
• End the program-record tying road trip with a win
• Give the Red Flash its second win below the Mason-Dixon Line this season
• Be the squad's first win against a MAAC team since defeating Niagara 93-87 on December 10, 2017 in upstate New York
