SELECT GAME NOTES VS. RADFORDÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Sunday's game between Saint Francis and Radford marks the first meeting between the two teams in program history.
• The Red Flash is 3-3 all-time against the Big South Conference, including 2-1 at home. The last team Saint Francis played from the conference was Longwood in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. The Frankies defeated the Lancers 87-72 on November 23, 2016, in Loretto and 83-56 in Farmville, Va., on November 21, 2017.
• Saint Francis is 16-12 when head coach
Rob Krimmel's inaugural meeting against an opponent is at DeGol Arena. He is 9-0 against NCAA Division III teams and 7-12 against NCAA Division I teams. Digging deeper, the Red Flash is 2-7 when Krimmel faced a Northeast Conference opponent for the first time at home and 5-5 in non-conference play. Saint Francis went 0-4 against non-conference teams at home in Krimmel's first season, meaning the Frankies are 5-1 in the last six times it has played a team for the first time in the Krimmel era at DeGol Arena.
• The Highlanders are on the schedule for the first time in program history. It will be the 24th time Krimmel will usher in a new opponent onto the Frankies' schedule. The 13-year head coach is 11-12 in the inaugural meeting against a brand-new opponent to the Red Flash schedule. The team is 9-3 at home in these games under the coach, and 4-3 against Division I opponents.
• Radford is one of three teams on the schedule for the first time, but the Highlanders are the only NCAA Division I team with the distinction. The Red Flash defeated Penn State Schuylkill 96-57 on November 20, while the Frankies' next opponent, Penn State Shenango, is in Schuylkill's conference. Schuylkill defeated Shenango 97-84 on November 23.
• Saint Francis will play its first game after Thanksgiving at home for the fifth time under Krimmel, including the fourth time out of the last five years. Krimmel's teams traditionally play better at home than on the road, but the Red Flash seem to be more thankful on the road after Thanksgiving than at home. The Frankies are 4-4 on the road in the first game after Turkey Day, and three of those contests were against Power 5 teams. On the other hand, the Red Flash is looking for its first win-win after Thanksgiving under the coach. The last win in the first game after Thanksgiving was a 79-68 win at Lehigh on November 30, 2021. The last home win was a 59-44 win against Bucknell on November 24, 2001. Before Krimmel took over in 2012-13, the Frankies were only home four times from 2000-12 in the first game that would be the traditional start to the Christmas season.
• Krimmel is moving closer to another 100 milestone on his bucket list. He needs five wins for its 100th career win at DeGol Arena.Â
NOTE: Krimmel has 95 home wins, but the Red Flash defeated Navy 60-57 at the War Memorial on November 11, 2013.
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the team's first win against Radford in the first meeting against the Highlanders
• Be the team's third win against the Big South at home and the first since defeating Longwood 87-62 on November 23, 2016
• Help the Red Flash improve to 3-0 at home for the first time since 2018-19
• Be the team's first home win in the first game after Thanksgiving at home since defeating Bucknell 59-44 on November 30, 2001
Â
ABOUT THE HIGHLANDERS
• Radford comes into the contest 6-2 after winning two games in the Sunshine Slam in Daytona. The Highlanders defeated new NEC member Chicago State 63-48 on Monday and then downed Purdue Fort Wayne 69-56 to win the tournament title on Tuesday. Radford also lost 79-51 at Clemson on November 21 for the only current same opponent as the Red Flash. Â
•
Jarvis Moss powered the Highlanders with 23 points, while
Truth Harris had 12 points in the title bout.
Josiah Harris hauled in 10 boards.
• Moss leads the team with 17.5 points per game, while Harris has a team-best 7.1 rebounds per game.
• Harris is one of two players that should be familiar to Red Flash fans. He played the 2022-23 season with St. Francis Brooklyn. Harris posted zero points and two rebounds in an 87-61 Saint Francis win in Loretto on January 20, 2023, then registered 15 points and 11 rebounds in a 72-64 win in Brooklyn on February 16, 2023.
•
Tony Felder played last season at Stonehill before transferring to Radford for 2024-25. He is averaging 2.0 points per game but ranks second on the team in assists (15) in eight games with six starts.
• Similar to Harris, Felder will remember the game on his home court more than the one in Loretto. Felder had nine points, three rebounds, and three assists in a Saint Francis 72-63 win on February 10, 2024, but then went off for 30 points, seven boards, and three assists in Massachusetts in a Stonehill win by the same score on February 24, 2024.
LAST TIME OUT
• Aided by two big shots by sophomore
Bobby Rosenberger III and junior
Riley Parker, Saint Francis closed the game on a 10-0 run to defeat Lehigh 88-78 on November 26.
• After the Mountain Hawks tied the game at 78, Rosenberger knocked a 3-pointer with 93 seconds left to give the Red Flash the lead for good. After a defensive rebound by Rosenberger, Parker scored in the lane with 60 seconds on the clock. The game became a free throw game, with Saint Francis knocking down 5 of 6 at the line.
• Fresh off the duo's 20-point performance at Georgetown on November 23, Parker posted a career-high 23 points, while Rosenberger added 21 points, one off his career best.
• Freshman
Juan Cranford, Jr. recorded a career-high 11 points and made two free throw s in the final 28 seconds to help seal the win and hit the new career mark.
TRENDING UP
• There has been no teenage wasteland when it comes to the last couple of games for sophomore
Bobby Rosenberger III and junior
Riley Parker. They may not be Pete Townsend's inspirations, Meher Baba and Terry Riley (Baba O'Riley), but the Red Flash faithful knows Who they are!
• Rosenberger came into the season as the top returning Frankies' scorer and one of the top 30 returning scorers in the NEC, and he has not disappointed. The sophomore has posted double figures in seven of the eight games this season and all seven when he has played more than 20 minutes in a game. In the last two games, Rosenberger has recorded 20 points and seven rebounds at Georgetown on November 20 and 21 points and eight rebounds against Lehigh on November 26. Rosenberger has a knack for getting on the glass when he has an excellent offensive game. In three games last season, when he had 19 points or more, he also had nine caroms in each of those games.
• Parker struggled in his first five NCAA Division I games after transferring from NJCAA's Cochise College. After shooting 29.0 percent (9-for-31) in his first five games, the junior is averaging 53.6 percent (22-for-41) in the last three games, and he has posted double figures in all three tilts. He is averaging 18.0 points and 5.3 assists per game in that stretch. Parker has three games with at least five assists this season, and twice at home, he has dished out seven helpers. Sophomore
Ace Talbert led the team last season with four games with five or more assists.
• Rosenberger and Parker both have registered 20 points in consecutive games, the first time since Josh Cohen scored 20 points in three straight games against FDU (February 23, 2023), Wagner (February 25, 2023), and CCSU (March 1, 2023) one player posted consecutive 20-point performances.
• It is also the first time since February 27, 2020, against Mount St. Mary's and February 29, 2020, against Robert Morris Saint Francis that two players had consecutive 20-point games when Isaiah Blackmon and Keith Braxton turned the trick. If Rosenberger and Parker both score 20 points against Radford on Sunday, it would be the first time under head coach
Rob Krimmel that two players posted 20 points together in three straight games. The closest two players came to having two players score 20 points in three straight under the coach was a three-game stretch from January 14-21 when Jamal King registered three 20-point games in a row, and Braxton posted 20 points in the first two games, but narrowly missed the mark by one point in the third game in that span.
• Junior
Miles Webb is averaging 10.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in his last three games. The junior made his first career start at DeGol Arena against Lehigh after registering his first four career starts on the road last season. He registered eight points and four rebounds in his first start in Loretto, averaging 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in his previous two games at home.
•The Red Flash is looking for back-to-back non-conference wins for the first time since defeating Lehigh 62-61 on November 29, 2023, and American 75-73 on December 2, 2023. It would be the first back-to-back wins in non-conference play against NCAA Division I competition at DeGol Arena since defeating Morgan State 80-62 on November 9, 2018, and Niagara 79-73 on November 3.0, 2018.Â
SWEET, SWEET VIRGINIA, ALWAYS LEAVES AN OPEN DOOR
• Saint Francis is 21-22 all-time against the state of Virginia. The Red Flash is 15-4 at home against the state, while head coach Rob Krimmel is 2-6 against the Old Dominion.Â
• The Frankies have had a team from Virginia visit the area 19 times. Still, only VMI (L, 76-59. December 1, 2002), Liberty (W, 70-56, December 16, 2006), and Longwood (W, 87-62, November 23, 2016) are the only three teams to come to Pennsylvania to play Saint Francis since 2000. Two of those games were also around the Thanksgiving holiday. The game against the Keydets was the first game after Thanksgiving in 2002. The tilt against the Lancers was the contest the day before Turkey Day, making three of the last four meetings against teams from Virginia happening around the November holiday, with Sunday's game against Radford.
• Krimmel is 2-0 against Longwood, including 1-0 at home, thanks to the victory against Lancers in that 2016 battle. The 13th year head coach has also played at VCU (November 5, 2019), Richmond (November 8, 2019), Virginia (December 1, 2020), Liberty (December 3, 2020), Virginia (2021-22), and Virginia Tech (November 24, 2018, and November 18, 2021).
• The Red Flash had a 73-65 win against the Hokies on December 4, 1950, at the War Memorial. Virginia Tech finished 19-10 overall and 9-6 in the Southern Conference, including NC State, West Virginia, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, Maryland and Wake Forest.Â
• Roanoke is the only Division III school Saint Francis has played from Virginia. The series ended tied at three games each from the 1970-77.
NOTE: The header is a lyric from a song by the band Eddie From Ohio called Old Dominion from 1999.
ON THIS DATE
• Saint Francis is 15-12 on this date, including 12-4 at home
• The last time the Red Flash played on this date was a 93-67 win against Bucknell at home in 2021. Tuesday's 88 points against Lehigh were the most points scored in a non-conference game against a Division I opponent since this game against the Bison.Â
• Ramiir Dixon-Conover paced the Frankies against Bucknell with 23 points, while Ronell Giles, Jr. (13 points) and Maxwell Land (10 points) also had double figures in the win.Â
FUN FACT: December 1 was the season opener 12 times for the Frankies from 1951-1993 and the team went 8-4 in the inaugural game of the year on this date including 7-1 at home.
