Cranford Notches Career-High 21 Points In Saint Francis Men's Basketball Loss At Maryland

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis lost to Maryland in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday.
>> Juan Cranford, Jr. posted a career-high 21 points for the Red Flash. He finished his first career 20-point performance 8-for-11 from the floor, 3 of 6 from behind the arc, and 2 of 2 at the free throw line. His two free throws with 5:29 left put him over 20 points for the game.
>> Jeremy Clayville added 11 points.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Trailing 17-13, Clayville keyed an 8-0 run with a pair of 3-pointers before Miles Webb scored in the lane for its largest lead at 21-17 with 10:32 remaining in the first half. The Terrapins then closed the half on a 38-7 run over the final 10 minutes to enter the locker room with a 55-29 advantage. Maryland hit 15-for-26 behind the arc to earn the 111-57 win.

FLASH QUOTES
"Maryland is a very good basketball team. I was pleased with the way we started the game but got away from who we are and what we needed to do against a very talented team." - head coach Rob Krimmel on the game

FLASH MOMENTS
Saint Francis jumped out to a 3-0, 5-2, 9-6, and 13-10 advantage in the first six minutes and 36 seconds. Cranford got the scoring started after good ball movement, which resulted in a 3-pointer. After a Maryland basket, Riley Parker glided in off the glass for a layup to restore a three-point edge. Back-to-back baskets in the paint by the Terps were answered with jumpers by Daemar Kelly and Parker to give the Frankies a three-point lead for the third time. The back and forth continued when Aidan Harris and Cranford nailed consecutive baskets for a 13-10 lead with 13:24 on the clock.

FLASH NUGGETS
Cranford has recorded double figures in five straight games. The freshman became the second player under head coach Rob Krimmel to register 20 points in a game against a Power 5 team, joining Landon Moore, who had 25 points at No. 25 Miami three years ago to the day. He becomes the 12th freshman under Krimmel to have 20 points in a game and the 21 points are the 11th most by a freshman under the coach.

Clayville recorded 10+ points for the second straight game and the fifth time this season. It is the second time he has posted back-to-back 10+ point games after notching the achievement in his first two collegiate games. It was also his second double-figure point game against a Power 5 team after registering 11 points at Clemson on November 8.

Kelly finished with eight points, while Webb posted six points and seven rebounds. Webb (Arlington, Va.) and Harris (Annapolis, Md.) returned to their DMV roots.

After getting injured in the DMV at Georgetown on November 23, Valentino Pinedo returned against Maryland, also in the DMV, after missing four games. The junior had an assist and two rebounds in 10 minutes.

It was the sixth time under Krimmel that the team allowed 100 points in a game and the first since December 18, 2021, at Illinois.
