SELECT GAME NOTES VS. PENN STATE SHENANGOÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Wednesday's game between Saint Francis and Penn State Shenango marks the first meeting between the two teams.
• "We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup." —Elf (2003). It may not be four food groups, but Saint Francis will play its third branch of Penn State University. Maybe we are just sticking to candy without the syrup this year. The Red Flash lost to the main Penn State campus at University Park 92-62 on November 12 before defeating Penn State Schuylkill 96-57 in Loretto on November 20. Penn State Shenango will be the third and final branch of Penn State featured on the 2024-25 Saint Francis schedule.
• Saint Francis has played multiple campuses before, but this season marks the first time in program history that the Frankies have played three different campuses in the same season. The Red Flash played two branches before in the same season: FDU (NCAA Division I) and FDU-Madison (NCAA Division III) in 1977-78, Pittsburgh (NCAA Division I) and Pitt Bradford (NCAA Division III) and UMBC (NCAA Division I) and UMES (NCAA Division I) in 1998-99. UMBC was a member of the Northeast Conference in 1998-99, while all the other instances were non-conference battles.
• This will be the second of three games against NCAA Division III opponents this season. Along with the two branches of Penn State coming to town, the Red Flash will host Franciscan in its annual game on December 19.
• This game marks the 15th time Saint Francis has played a non-Division I opponent under head coach
Rob Krimmel and the 10th different school to come to Loretto to play the Red Flash.
• Saint Francis is 14-0 in these contests, averaging 103.1 points per game. The Red Flash is allowing 62.5 points per game in these contests. The Frankies have scored over 100 points in nine of the 14 games and have not given up more than 77 points against an NCAA Division III team under Krimmel.
• This will be the eighth time Saint Francis will play a Division III team from the state of Pennsylvania. Except for the annual battle with Franciscan and a game against Bethany, all of these tilts have been against a team from the Keystone State.
• Krimmel is moving closer to another 100 milestone on his bucket list. He needs five wins for its 100th career win at DeGol Arena. Krimmel would become the second head coach and first basketball coach in Saint Francis history to reach 100 wins at DeGol Arena. Men's volleyball head coach
Mike Rumbaugh has 184 wins in the building.
Jenny Przekwas has 72 wins at DeGol Arena for the most by a women's basketball head coach.
NOTE: Krimmel has 96 home wins, but the Red Flash defeated Navy 60-57 at the War Memorial on November 11, 2013.Â
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Improve the team's home record to 3-1 on the year
• Finish the three game homestand with a 2-1 record
• Finish the year 2-1 against Penn State schools
• Improve to 15-0 against non-Division I teams and 2-0 this season
• Give head coach Rob Krimmel his 96th win at DeGol Arena
• Have the team go into Exam week on a good note
• Be the team's fourth win of the 2024-25 season
Â
ABOUT THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State Shenango comes into the contest 2-8 overall after fallinG 83-79 to Allegheny on Monday. Shenango lost to Schuylkill on November 23, 97-84. The Red Flash defeated Schuylkill 96-57 in its home opener on November 20. The game will be an exhibition game for Shenango and will not count against its record.
•
D'Montez Owens paced the Nittany Lions with 31 points against Allegheny.
Malik Davis narrowly missed a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, while
Izzy Santiago chipped in 10 points and six assists.
• Owens leads the team with 21.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Davis is averaging 16.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Santiago is third on the squad with 13.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, and
Cameron Brown powers the team with 7.7 rebounds per game and is averaging 10.1 points per game.Â
LAST TIME OUT
• Radford defeated Saint Francis 79-70 in the first meeting between the two teams on Sunday.
• Sophomore
Bobby Rosenberger III and freshman
Juan Cranford, Jr. both had 15 points to pace the Red Flash. The point total for Cranford was a career best.
• Junior
Riley Parker added 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The seven boards tied a career-high for Parker.Â
TRENDING UP
• Saint Francis is 3-4 in its last seven games, and if you take out the two money games, the squad is 3-2 in that stretch. In those five games, the Red Flash averages 75.4 points per game and outrebounds the opponent by 3.8 rebounds per game with 11 more offensive rebounds.
• In all three wins, the squad shot over 50.0 percent from the field and outrebounded the opponent in two of the three victories. Campbell held a 28-25 edge in rebounds in the 65-64 win on November 10.
• Junior
Riley Parker has scored double figures in the last four games and is averaging 17.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 50.9 percent (28-for-55) in this stretch. The junior was riding an escalator up to new career highs in his first three games in this span before his 14 points against Radford on December 1, although he did tie his career high for rebounds (7) against the Highlanders. The 14 points were the third-most points he has scored in his Saint Francis career after his two 20-point games (23 vs. Lehigh, November 26; 20 vs. Georgetown, November 20). The Frankies are 2-0 when he dishes out seven assists in game.
• Sophomore
Bobby Rosenberger III has been a consistent scorer for the Red Flash, posting double figures in all seven games against NCAA Division I opponents. Rosenberger is averaging 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in the last four games. He has also been vital on the glass with five rebounds in seven of the nine games Rosenberger has notched two seven-board games and a season-high eight caroms against Lehigh, including a clutch defensive rebound in the final 90 seconds of the contest.
• Junior
Miles Webb is averaging 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in his last four games. After posting 11 points and five rebounds in the first five tilts of the year, the junior has registered 40 points and 20 rebounds in his last four games. He is averaging 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds and has scored at least eight points and grabbed at least four boards in the three games at DeGol Arena. Three of his six career 10+ point games have come at home, including his career-high 19 points against Sacred Heart on January 25, 2023, and 17 points against Penn State Schuylkill on November 20. He has started the last two games for his first two career starts at home after starting the first four road games last year.
• Freshman
Juan Cranford, Jr. is not buying a stairway to heaven but has been riding the same career-high motor as Parker. In the last two games, the freshman has posted and 11 points against Lehigh, and the top floor currently sits at 15 points against Radford. The freshman has also joined the starting lineup for the last four games to help the Red Flash to a 2-2 mark in that stretch. He had nine points against Dayton in the season opener on November 4 for his best performance before his last two games.
• The last time the Red Flash played an NCAA Division III, junior
Chris Moncrief (17 points) and freshman
Jeremy Clayville (21 points) had career performances.Â
AGAINST THE KEYSTONE
• Wednesday's game against Penn State Shenango marks the fourth game for the Red Flash in its home state of Pennsylvania this season.
• Saint Francis has five Keystone battles in non-conference in 2024-25. The Red Flash has played two Penn State campuses in the first six games and Lehigh before this meeting with Shenango. The squad will continue its long-standing rivalry with former Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris on December 21.
• This season, the Frankies will have a new NEC Keystone State clash with Mercyhurst, moving to Division I ranks. The two teams will meet in Loretto on January 10 and in Erie on January 30.
• Head coach Rob Krimmel is 26-25 against the state of Pennsylvania and 2-1 in 2024-25. Lehigh is the most-played no-conference team under Krimmel, with the 12 meeting against the Mountain Hawks. Robert Morris is the most played team for Krimmel from the Keystone State, but this season will be only the fourth non-conference tilt between the two old Northeast Conference foes.
• Saint Francis has played the most games against teams from the western part of the state in program history. The Red Flash has tangled with Robert Morris the most in the state, with 92 meetings. Duquesne has been on the squad 75 times, Saint Vincent 65 times, Westminster 43 times, Geneva 39 times, and Pittsburgh 30 times.
