Saint Francis Men's Basketball Falls At LIU, 70-67

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis' furious comeback at the end falls short in a 70-67 loss at LIU in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME

After the Red Flash tied the game at 39, the Sharks took the lead it would not relinquish on a 3-pointer with 14:25 remaining. LIU extended the margin to 11 points with 6:31 on the clock.

The Frankies trailed by nine with 2:09 remaining but made a furious comeback attempt in the closing minutes, ending the game on a 6-0 run after going 6-for-8 from the free throw line but came up three points short.

FLASH QUOTES
"We did some good things offensively and held a good offensive team to 70 points, but free throws have been our Achilles heel all year. It is not about those free throws at the tail end of the game. It is about the free throws in the first half and about the free throws early in the second half. And despite that, under two minutes to go, we had a chance to win that basketball game." – head coach Rob Krimmel on the game

FLASH MOMENTS

Trailing 13-5, the Red Flash used a 12-4 run to tie the game at 17. Rosenberger had five points, and Lopez added four points, while Wilborn tied the score with a layup at 10:38 left in the first half.

The Red Flash went on a 13-2 run to close the first half and start the second half. Saint Francis closed the half with five unanswered points thanks to a Rosenberger driving layup with 39 seconds left and a deep 3-ball as time expired on the half to go into the locker room trailing 37-31. Rosenberger added a pair of baskets to start the final frame before Lopez tied the game at 39 with 15:34 left.

FLASH NUGGETS
Coming off his career-high matching 22 points at CCSU on Thursday, Lopez finished with his ninth 10+ point game this season and registered consecutive games with 10+ points for the third time. The freshman dished out three assists for the third time on the year.

Wilborn, who had his five-game consecutive game streak of 10+ point games halted on Thursday after finishing with nine points, notched his team-leading 14th double-figure point game of the year. The four blocks are the second most in his career after turning away five shots against Campbell on December 30. The freshman had eight rebounds for the ninth time in 2023-24.

Wisler Sanon II (Sicklerville. N.J.) added eight points and four rebounds on the night after recording a career-high 13 points and eight rebounds against CCSU on Thursday.  Aaron "Ace" Talbert (Wyandanch, N.Y.) had eight points.

The Red Flash went a season-high 19-for-32 from the foul line. The squad is 3-3 in games decided by three points or less with the last two games being decided by four points combined.
