FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis teams split their matches against Sacred Heart on Sunday. The men won 4-3 and the women lost 6-1. With their win today, the men move to 3-0 in conference play.
Men's: Saint Francis 4, Sacred Heart 3.
Doubles
The Red Flash earned a hard-fought doubles point with 6-4 and 7-6 (8-6) wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 matches respectively.
Tyler Nguyen and Mathis Tremblay won their second match from the No. 1 doubles position in as many days and improved to 7-5 on the year as a pair.
Gonzalez and Kruzel also won on back-to-back days with their victory from the No. 3 spot and are now 4-2 as a tandem this season.
Nguyen and Kruzel each picked up their 14th doubles win of the season. They are currently tied for the team lead.
Singles
The Red Flash split the singles matches with the Pioneers, earning wins from the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions.
Gonzalez won his 16th singles match of the season with his 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory from the No. 3 position. That mark is a team best and moved the freshman into sole possession of the lead for most singles wins in the Northeast Conference.
Tremblay's 6-0, 6-2 win from the No. 4 slot improved his singles record to 8-6 on the season and to 4-2 from the No. 4 position. The match came down to the result of the No. 6 match, and Kruzel pulled through for Saint Francis with a thrilling 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) win to clinch the win.
Kruzel has now won four singles matches in a row and improved to 10-8 on the year with the crucial win.
Women's: Saint Francis 1, Sacred Heart 6.
Doubles
The Pioneers claimed victory in the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
The No.3 match went unfinished at 5-5.
Singles
Sacred Heart won all but one of the singles matches on the day.
Kelly Dowuona won the No. 4 match with a 6-1, 6-2 result, moving her to 12-6 on the year in singles play and tying her for the second most singles wins on the team this season.

Both Red Flash squads return home on Saturday Mar. 21 to host Merrimack. The men will be at Gorilla House Gym in Altoona, and the women will be at Ebensburg Tennis Center in Ebensburg. Both matches start at 11:00 a.m.
