LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis teams both won their matches against Merrimack on Saturday. The men won 5-2 and the women won 7-0. With their wins today, the men moved to a perfect 4-0 in conference play and the women improved to 4-1.
Women's: Saint Francis 7, Merrimack 0.
Doubles
The Red Flash swept the doubles matches en route to securing the doubles point against the Warriors.
Diana Zuba and Kelly Dowuona earned a 6-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match. They are now 2-2 as a pair this season and saw them win their 11th and 14th doubles matches of the year. The latter is a team best.
Reagen Mangan and Sara Jankovic won the No. 2 match by a score of 6-3. The win improves the pair's record to 7-6 and marked their 13th and 14th doubles wins of the season respectively.
Valeria Vinces and Kally Kadzinski won in decisive fashion from the No. 3 match, claiming a 6-0 victory. The victory saw them earn their sixth and 12th doubles win of the year respectively and moved them to 3-2 as a pair this season.
Singles
Saint Francis won all six singles matches to make it a clean sweep on the afternoon.
Zuba won by default after just a single set to improve to 19-6 on the year, a number that is the best in the conference.
Mangan won the No. 2 match by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to earn her 12th singles win of the season.
Jankovic earned a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win from the No. 3 position to clinch the win for the Red Flash, marking her ninth singles win of the year.
Dowuona secured the win from the No. 4 slot by a score of 6-0, 6-2. The sophomore's win was her third in a row and marks her 13th singles victory of the season.
Nagisa Miyake picked up her 13th singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win from the No. 5 spot. Miyake is 4-2 from the No. 5 position this year.
Marie Discini earned an emphatic 6-0, 6-0 win from the No. 6 slot to cap off a 9-for-9 effort by Saint Francis. The win was her eighth of the season in singles.
Men's: Saint Francis 5, Merrimack 2.
Doubles
The Red Flash swept the doubles action to earn the doubles point.
Tyler Nguyen and Mathis Tremblay won their third match in a row from the No. 1 doubles position and improved to 8-5 on the year as a pair.
Marc Fuste and Gregory Troyan won the No. 2 match by a score of 6-2 and was their fifth win as a pair this season.
Alan Gonzalez and Kevin Kruzel also won their third match in a row from the No. 3 spot and are now 5-2 as a tandem this season.
Nguyen and Kruzel each picked up their 15th doubles win of the season. They are currently tied for the team lead.
Singles
The Red Flash won four of the six singles contests on the afternoon to lock the win down. They won from the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 matches.
Nguyen's 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 2 match was the 12th of the season for the freshman.
Gonzalez won his 17th singles match of the season with his 6-2, 6-4 victory from the No. 3 position. That mark is a team best and is the third most singles wins in the Northeast Conference this season.
Tremblay's 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win from the No. 4 slot improved his singles record to 9-6 on the season and to 5-2 from the No. 4 position. It was his third win in a row.
Troyan picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 5 match, earning his seventh singles victory of the year.
