Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's And Women's Tennis Both Advance To NEC Semifinals For First Time Since 2018, 2017 Respectively

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis teams both won their quarterfinal matchups at the NEC Championships on Friday to advance to the semifinals on Saturday. The men defeated Sacred Heart 4-2 and the women defeated Wagner 4-0

It will be the first semifinals appearance since 2018 for the men and 2017 for the women. 

Women's Results: Saint Francis 4, Wagner 0.  

Doubles 
The Red Flash won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to secure the doubles point. They were leading in the No. 1 match as well before it went unfinished. 

Sara Jankovic and Reagen Mangan won the No. 2 doubles match in a dominant 6-0 effort. The pair are now 8-8 together this season and have won 15 and 14 total doubles matches respectively. 

Kally Kadzinski and Kelly Dowuona continued the excellent year they have had as a pair with an emphatic 6-0 win in the No. 3 doubles match. They are now 11-3 as a team and have won 15 and 19 total doubles matches respectively. 

Singles 

Saint Francis earned wins from the top three singles matches to lock down the sweep of the Seahawks. 

Diana Zuba won the No. 1 singles match by retirement, marking a conference-best 22nd singles win of the year for the freshman. 

Mangan won the No. 2 match by a score of 7-5, 6-4 to earn her 15th singles win of the season and her fourth in a row. 

Dowuona picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win from the No. 3 slot to earn the coveted fourth point and clinch the win for the Red Flash. Dowuona improved to 16-7 in singles action on the year. 

Next 

The Red Flash will square off against the No. 2 seed LIU in the semifinals tomorrow after 9:00 a.m. The Sharks are 9-5 on the year and have won their last five contests. Their top singles player is Mia Tsoukalas with a 14-4 record on the year. Tsoukalas and Clara Tardivel are the top doubles pair for LIU, holding a 9-2 record together this season. 

Men's: Saint Francis 4, Sacred Heart 2.  

Doubles 
The Red Flash lost both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, dropping the doubles point to the Pioneers. 

Singles 

Marc Fuste earned a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 1 singles match to get the Red Flash back into the match. It marked Fuste's 10th singles win of the season. 

Mathis Tremblay cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win from the No. 4 slot to even the match at two. Tremblay improved to 13-7 in singles on the year with the win. 

Tyler Nguyen put the Red Flash ahead with a third set tiebreaker win to secure his match. It was his 16th singles win of the season. 

Just minutes later, Gregory Troyan clinched the win for the Red Flash with a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 win in the No. 5 match. It was Troyan's eighth singles win of the year and it sent the Red Flash through to the semifinals. 

Next 

Saint Francis will meet the No. 2 seed, Fairleigh Dickinson, for the first time this season in the semifinals. The Knights are 13-6 on the season and winners of their last four. FDU's top singles player is Jorge Alonso-Cortes, who is 18-3 on the year and has won eight matches in a row. Joshua Obiniye and Thomas Linley are the top doubles tandem for the Knights with an 8-5 record on the season.
