Softball’s Power at the Plate Leads to Doubleheader Sweep of Sacred Heart

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University softball improved to 14-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 9-0 run-rule victory in game one and 10-6 comeback victory in game two against Sacred Heart.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
» Grace Vesco (12-6) earned the game one victory after she allowed no runs on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
» Rachel Marsden (13-5) earned the game two victory after she allowed six runs (one earned) on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts. She added a three-run home run at the plate.
» Olivia Ulam went 5-for-7 with three runs scored, one home run and three RBIs.
» Ashley Wruble went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, one double, one home run and three RBIs.
» Lexi Hernandez went 3-for-7 with two runs scored, two home runs and three RBIs.
» Savannah Nash hit a three-run home run in each game to total a team-high six RBIs.
» Kaylie Walters went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, two walks and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
 
TURNING POINTS OF GAME ONE
» Ulam hit a two-run home run in the third at-bat for Saint Francis for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
» After two scoreless innings, Marsden hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead.
» With two outs in the fourth, Ulam hit a single to the pitcher that drove home a run and opened the lead to 6-0.
» Nash capped off the scoring with a three-run home run that opened a 9-0 lead. Allie Braly entered in the fifth inning to record the final three outs and clinch the run-rule victory.
 
TURNING POINTS OF GAME TWO
» Sacred Heart started the scoring in game two with a solo home run, followed by an RBI single, and opened a 2-0 lead.
» Hernandez hit a two-out single in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
» After two scoreless innings, Sacred Heart increased its lead in the fourth inning with a run scored on a passed ball, run on a Red Flash fielding error and two-run home run that opened a 6-1 lead.
» Wruble responded in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run with two outs that cut the deficit to 6-4. Hernandez then hit a solo home run in the fifth that had Saint Francis within one run.
» Orischak led off the sixth inning with a solo home run that tied the game at six. With two runners on later in the inning, Nash hit a three-run home run and gave Saint Francis a 9-6 lead. Hernandez homered in the next at-bat for back-to-back home runs and opened a 10-6 lead.
» Sacred Heart produced two runners in the seventh inning, but Marsden got the final two outs and clinched Saint Francis' doubleheader sweep.
 
FLASH NUGGETS
» Walters set a new single-season program record in steals with her 23rd of the season during the sixth inning of game two. She has at least one stolen base in seven straight games.
» Hernandez achieved career hit No. 100 with her solo home run in the sixth inning of game two. She also produced the first two home run game of her career.  
» Ulam has at least two hits in six straight games and adds 12 RBIs during the stretch.
» Orischak now has a home run in three straight series after her solo shot in game two.
» Saint Francis hit five home runs in game two and three home runs in game one after the previous season-high for home runs in a game was two.
