Women's Soccer Falls To Stonehill At Home

Loretto, Pa.- Saint Francis women's soccer suffered their first conference defeat in a 4-1 loss to Stonehill on Thursday afternoon. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

>> Tomke Dziesiaty equalized the game with a header goal in the 51st minute. Bella Pesce and Lauren Pyle assisted on the goal. 

>> Pyle led the way in shots for Saint Francis with three. 

>> The Red Flash registered 12 shots on the afternoon. 

>> Emma Sawich made eight saves in the match.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME

Stonehill found the opener in the 39th minute via a Kayla Cassidy goal.  

Dziesiaty put home a header in the 51st minute on an opportunity that was created by a Pesce cross. 

The Skyhawks scored two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half to regain their lead. They would add a fourth in the 86th minute. 


HOW IT HAPPENED

Pyle nearly found the opener in the third minute on a shot that required a diving save to keep out. Alyssa Mella almost got the rebound but could not get there before the keeper. 

Pyle once again fired a dangerous shot in the 10th minute. This time, it was a laser from 25 yards out that hooked just left of the net. 

In the 19th minute, Raine Korpics fired a shot from miles away but it was saved. 

Mercedez Paino nearly found the back of the net on a volley from a Zeeman free kick in the 25th minute, but her shot was saved. 

Stonehill jumped in front with a 39th minute goal. 

The Red Flash had a couple of good opportunities in the final few minutes of the first half but could not capitalize. 

Saint Francis came out of the break with a purpose, equalizing just six minutes into the second half. Pesce sent an excellent cross into the box that found the head of Dziesiaty, who buried the chance. 

Stonehill jumped back in front with a 62nd minute goal, then doubled their advantage with a goal just 61 seconds later. 

Paino tried to cut the deficit to one with a header in the 80th minute but her shot sailed high. 

Cat Schiavo skied a shot over the crossbar in the 83rd minute in an attempt to get a second Red Flash goal. 

Stonehill would make it a three-goal lead in the 86th minute. 


FLASH NUGGETS

Dziesiaty scored her first goal since Oct. 23, 2022. It was the seventh of her career. 

Pesce recorded the first point of her career with her assist. 

Pyle recorded the 12th assist and 28th point of her career. 

Sawich recorded her second highest save total of the season with eight.
