SELECT GAME NOTES VS. WAGNERÂ (FULLÂ GAME NOTES PDF)
FRANKIES TIDBITS IN A FLASH
• Monday's game between Saint Francis and Wagner marks the 84th meeting in the all-time series, dating back to the 1956-57 season. The Seahawks have won the last three tilts and hold a 44-39 edge in the matchup, including 29-15 in Staten Island.
• Saint Francis is playing on Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration Day. We might need to call Mr. Hand from Fast Times At Ridgemont High for some U.S. History: "You're absolutely right, Mr. Spicoli. It is our time. Yours, mine, and everyone else's in this room. But it is my class."
• History lesson No. 1: The Red Flash is playing on Martin Luther King Day for the 15th time since the Federal government made it a national holiday in 1983. The Red Flash is 1-5 at home and 1-7 on the road when playing on MLK Day. The only Frankies win on the road on MLK Day was a 68-65 win at Wagner 28 years ago to the day.
• History lesson No. 2: This will be the sixth time the team will play on Inauguration Day. The Red Flash is 3-2 when it plays on the day a president is sworn into office. Saint Francis was in action on both of Richard Nixon's Inauguration on the road in Western Pennsylvania, winning at St. Vincent in 1969 and falling at Pittsburgh in 1973. The team defeated Loyola at home in 1985 during Ronald Reagan's second Inauguration, which was also the last ceremony to take place indoors before the 2025 event for Donald Trump. The 1997 win at Wagner on MLK Day was also an Inauguration Day during head coach
Rob Krimmel's freshman season with the Flash. Saint Francis was also on the road in 2001 for George W. Bush's first Inauguration and lost at LIU. It will be the third straight time the Red Flash plays on an Inauguration Day in New York.
• History lesson No. 3: This is only the third time that a president will take the oath of office on the day dedicated to honoring the late civil rights leader. Bill Clinton in 1997 and Obama in 2013 also had this distinction. Did you know that the two events aren't expected to coincide again until January 2053, due to their particular requirements and quirks of the calendar?
• The next two weeks almost rival the old NEC Rivalry Week it staged from 2009-11. Saint Francis will play both LIU and Wagner twice in 14 days. It is the second time in Red Flash NEC history that it will complete a series with two teams in back-to-back weeks. In 2009-10, Saint Francis completed its season series with Monmouth and FDU, and in 2017-18, with Wagner and Sacred Heart in consecutive weeks. The Frankies have also played a team twice in a seven-day span in 1989-90 (Wagner), 2000-01 (St. Francis Brooklyn and Quinnipiac), 2002-03 (Monmouth), 2014-15 (FDU), and 2022-23 (Merrimack). We are discounting the 2021-22 year.
• Saint Francis is playing FDU, LIU, and Wagner in its three-game road trip. The three schools are separated by just 31.8 miles and an hour and two minutes trip (in good traffic) to hit all three schools. However, the Red Flash traveled to FDU on January 12 and returned to Loretto before making its trek back up to the area this weekend. The two-week round trip covers 1,202 miles, 18 hours, and 25 minutes.Â
AN SFU WIN WOULD
• Be the team's third win on Martin Luther King Day
• Be the team's second win at Wagner on MLK Day, which was also on Inauguration Day like in 2025
• Improve to 3-3 in NEC play for 17th time in program history
• Wrap up the three-game road trip to the New York Metropolitan area 2-1
• End a three-game losing streak to Wagner
• Be the third win on the road
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
• Wagner comes into the contest 9-8 overall and 1-3 in NEC play after falling 69-65 at home against Mercyhurst on Saturday.
• The Seahawks registered a 164 ranking for its non-conference schedule, playing one quad one, two quad two, a quad three, and five quad four teams. Before beating CCSU 62-57 on January 10 for a quadrant three win, Wagner's best non-conference win was a 60-58 win against Boston University on November 19 with a 293 ranking.
• R.J. Greene paced the Seahawks with 17 points against the Lakers, while Zaire Williams had 14 points. Â
• Williams leads the team with 12.7 points per game and with 28 steals. Greene, who played at NEC rival LIU last season, powers the team with 5.5 rebounds per game. Javier Esquerra has a team-best 84 assist and ranks second with 26 steals.Â
LAST TIME WE MET
• Wagner won both meetings in 2023-24, taking a 71-56 decision in Staten Island on January 6, 2024 and edging the Red Flash in Loretto 65-62 on February 15, 2024.
• Eli Wilborn tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Bobby Rosenberger III added 11 points and seven rebounds in the January tilt. Julian Brown (19 points), Tahron Allen (17 points) and Melvin Council, Jr. (14 points) all found double figures for the Seahawks.
• Wilborn (16 points, eight rebounds) and Rosenberger (16 points, seven rebounds) fueled the Frankies in the second battle in Loretto, while Council (20 points), Allen (12 points) and Keyontae Lewis (10 points) posted double figures for the Seahawks.
LAST TIME OUT
• LIU defeated Saint Francis 64-51 on Saturday.
• Freshman
Juan Cranford, Jr. paced the Red Flash with 10 points against the Sharks.
TRENDING UP
• Freshman
Juan Cranford, Jr. has registered double figures in consecutive games and in nine of his last 12 games, including the previous five on the road. He is averaging 12.4 points per game in his last 12 games and 15.4 points per game in his previous five games away from Loretto. He has four games with at least 14 points in this stretch, three on the road, including a career-high 21 points at Maryland on December 17 and 19 points at Robert Morris on December 21. The freshman has at least eight points in 11 of the 12 games. He has also registered at least five rebounds five times, three assists three times, and three steals three times in that stretch.
• Cranford is the only player on the team to register 10+ points in more than five straight games this season. Junior
Riley Parker had two five-game streaks, and junior
Valentino Pinedo and sophomore
Bobby Rosenberger III each had one five-game streak in double figures.
• Parker averaged 16.6 points per game both times he posted at least 10 points in five straight contests. His first streak was from November 20-December 4, and he is coming off a five-game from December 21-January 11. Parker had had three games in single digits, just like Cranford when his five-game scoring streak ended. The junior is averaging 14.4 points per game in his last 13 contests.
• Pinedo's five double-figure games occurred from December 19 to January 10. The junior averaged 13.6 points and 6.2 points per game in his five-game streak. The last game he had 10+ points in the run was a career-high 18 points against Mercyhurst on January 10. Despite not reaching double figures in his previous two games, Pinedo has grabbed at least five boards in his last seven games, and in his last 11 games, he has played more than 12 minutes.
• Rosenberger started the season with five-straight 10+ point games and nine of his first 10. He averaged 15.1 points per game in that stretch but is averaging 8.9 points per game in his last nine games. The last game of the first 10 tilts was December 4 against Penn State Shenango. The team had five games over the next 30 days, with a 10-day break for exams and 12 days off for the Christmas/New Year holiday. The sophomore has grabbed five rebounds 11 times and has four games with at least 19 points this season.
