Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Saint Francis Field Hockey Beats Towson In A 3-2 OT Thriller

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> For the first time since 2016, Saint Francis Field Hockey has won 11 games in a season.
>> Saint Francis's winning streak grows to eight straight games.
>> Sofia Marciano's dominant performance places her third in program history for most goals in a season.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
In a game that was neck and neck the entire time, the ultimate turning point of the game came early in overtime. As if anyone was surprised, Sophomore midfielder Marciano found the back of the cage for the second time this afternoon to put another victory in the win column for the dominant Saint Francis team.

With that overtime goal, Marciano moves into third place in program history for most goals in a single season, tied with Autumn Pellman. She is also now the second player in team history to score 13 goals in one season.

FLASH MOMENTS
Although the initial period was fairly quiet for the Red Flash, Junior midfielder Brooklyn Widdess scored first for the team late in the second quarter, marking her third goal of the season.

While Towson was able to quickly retake the lead after Widdess's goal, Saint Francis came out of halftime swinging. While Marciano recorded the goal, Sophomore Midfielder Cruz Cánepa played a critical role in the connection, earning the underclassmen her tenth assist of the year.

FLASH NUGGETS
With today's win, head coach Mackenzie Allessie reaches the 11-win mark for the first time in her career. While that's impressive on its own, she also became only the second head coach ever to surpass a 10-plus win mark in program history.

The winning streak continues to grow today, tying the program record of eight straight games set just over a decade ago in 2014 by head coach Stacey Bean.

NEXT ON TAP
Saint Francis returns to Loretto this weekend for its final home series of the 2025 campaign. The first match of the series will be against Sacred Heart at 3 pm within the confines of DeGol Field. Game time is 3 p.m.
