Korrin Burns (Clarion, Pa./Clarion Area), a member of the Saint Francis women's volleyball team, has been named the NEC/Molten Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season alone. It is the ninth time that she earned Player of the Week and the 12th time she received a weekly conference award in her career.
Burns capped off the three-game span with an impressive 64 kills, aiding Saint Francis to continue its strong start in conference play with a 7-0 record. She averaged a hitting percentage of .331. In addition to her powerful offense, she contributed significantly on defense, recording four solo blocks to help secure the team's victories against New Haven. Burns also recorded 15 digs during the several game stretch. With these three games, Burns holds 19 career games with 20+ kills.
The senior was also named Player of the Week two times in 2023, once during August and again in November. Then two more times during 2024, in September and October. Burns now earns her ninth award for this category surpassing Megan Taliaferro as the program record holder since 1997.
Burns now holds fifth place in NEC history with nine Player of the Week awards. She sits behind Martina Wagner (10), Cristina Pintilie (10), Annika Foit (15), and Sarah Ciszek (15).
This is the 34th time that a Red Flash women's volleyball player has won Player of the Week, and Burns is the 12th different player to earn the distinction. She surpassed Skyler Eicher for the most Player of the Week awards in a season in program history with five.
Burns and Alexandra Sappia were both named Prime Performers. Sappia racked up a total of 123 assists over the Tuesday and weekend match ups, including an impressive 42-assist effort in the Red Flash's victory over Mercyhurst. She also contributed 13 digs and five service aces. With these performances, Sappia has now recorded 11 games this season with 40 or more assists.
The Red Flash takes a break next weekend but continues on the road with more conference action as it heads to New Jersey to face FDU on October 24 and 25.
