TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
During the NEC matchup Friday afternoon, Saint Francis got on the board early with a goal scored by Marciano assisted by Addie Sholly during the 13th minute. All remained quiet until the fourth quarter where Marciano scored her second goal of the game, this time assisted by Emilee Myers. Wagner, in desperate need of a goal of its own, pulled its goalie and added another player to the offensive side in attempt to put the pressure on the Red Flash defense. Saint Francis capitalized on this open goal opportunity and drove down the field to add one more goal for insurance by Grace Reed, and assisted by Marciano.
FLASH MOMENTS
Senior forward Reed also scored a goal in today's game, coming late in regulation. The upperclassmen's goals broke the stalemate that had persisted until then, giving the Red Flash a 2-0 lead.
Senior Myers and Sophomore Sholly each recorded an assist, generating key opportunities for two important goals that helped Saint Francis secure a victory over Wagner College in a vital NEC game.
Junior goalkeeper Mia DiGenova remains an unstoppable presence in the net, recording her fourth consecutive shutout. Additionally, the veteran shot-stopper made three saves, increasing her season total to 48 shots saved.
FLASH NUGGETS
Sophomore midfielder, Marciano, recorded goals in each half of this afternoon's event. Her two goals bring her total to 11 this season, ranking her seventh in the program's single-season record list. With today's goal, this is the 16th time in program history that a player has had 10 or more goals in a singular season. Saint Francis starting conference 4-0 is the second time in team history this has occurred, the first being in 2012. This is the second-best start in program history at 8-3 since 2014 when the Red Flash started 10-1. This is the fourth time in program history the Red Flash has recorded three consecutive shutouts with DiGenova in goal; Samantha Zieders turned the trick once in 2014 and twice in 2015.
