Ebensburg, Pa. – Saint Francis Women's Tennis had a strong showing in a 4-3 defeat to Dayton on Saturday morning, answering every Dayton singles win with a victory of their own.
DoublesÂ
The Red Flash dropped the no. 1 and 2 doubles matches, conceding the doubles point to the Flyers. Kelly Dowuona and Morgan Tuffs led the no. 3 doubles match 5-1 before it was abandoned.
SinglesÂ
The Red Flash narrowed the deficit to a single point before a win in the no. 5 match sealed the victory for Dayton.Â
The Flyers took a 2-0 lead with a win in the no. 3 match before Diana Zuba won the no. 1 match to make it 2-1. Zuba won the match 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4).
Dayton jumped back out in front by two with a win in the no. 2 match, but the Red Flash once again halved the deficit with a Dowuona win at the no. 4 position. Dowuona won 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
The Flyers clinched the match with a win in the no. 5 match, but Tuffs won the no. 6Â match with a 6-4, 6-3 result.
Flash Facts
Dowuona won her 90th overall match of her collegiate career and the 43rd singles match of her career. The junior from Brampton, Ontario moved into a tie for fifth place in program history for career singles wins with Shivani Patel with the victory.
Dowuona, Zuba and Tuffs have all won three consecutive singles contests.
Tuffs earned her 10th singles win of the season and her career with her victory.
