Softball Wins Home Opener Against Stonehill

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Softball came out on top in the first game of the series against Stonehill, winning 10-9. All 10 runs for Saint Francis were scored in the first inning.

TURNING POINTS
Tied at three apiece, a single by Olivia Kolowitz with bases loaded gave Olivia Ulam the scoring opportunity to take the lead.

With Stonehill down one in the top of the seventh, the Red Flash defense held off the Skyhawks to earn their first conference win. With a runner on third and two outs, Hannah Bendle made the play at shortstop for the win.

FLASH MOMENTS
With Savannah Nash and AB Cipalla getting walked and then stealing the next base, a double down the right field line by Addie Smith put Saint Francis on the board to cut the Stonehill lead to 3-2.

At Nash's next at-bat in the bottom of the first, she singled to right field, advancing to second on the throw and allowing Aliya Garroway and Sofia Zielinski to go home for a 6-3 score.

AB Cipalla earned a two-RBI double, scoring Nash and Kolowitz to take an 8-3 lead.

FLASH NUGGETS
Smith went 3-for-4 and three RBIs as the designated player.

Ulam tallied nine putouts at first base.

Kolowitz started the game, with Addison Deal entering in the top of the fourth. Kolowitz re-entered the game in the fifth, pitching for 6.1 innings. The sophomore allowed six runs (four earned) with one strikeout and three walks. Deal allowed three runs (two earned), walking one.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will play Stonehill on Saturday, March 15 to conclude the series. First pitch is set for 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
