TURNING POINTS OF THE MATCH
The match started with the Saints jumping out to a 16-11 lead and continued to hold their advantage at 23-21 going into the final serves. Saint Francis rallied with a 4-1 run to go up 24-23 with a chance at set point, but D'Youville went on their own 3-1 run to retake the lead at 26-25. At risk of losing the first set,
Andrew Deardorff dominated the rest of the way with three-straight kills to give the Red Flash a 28-26 set one win.
Set two was a repeat of set one, with the Saints going up 12-9. Just like the first set, Saint Francis roared back with a 6-1 rally to go up 15-13. From there, it was a back-and-forth affair between the two teams until the score was even at 22. In continuation with repeating the set one script, the home team racked up the final three points to go up 2-0 in the match. Dorn finished off the set with his lone ace to make the final score 25-22.
With all the momentum on their side, the Red Flash got out to a blistering 6-1 lead in the final set. The squad never looked back and extended their advantage as high as 23-11 as they headed into the final serves.
Jacob Strnisa put an exclamation point registered back-to-back kills to complete a 25-11 set three victory and a 3-0 sweep for Saint Francis.
FLASH MOMENTS
During the 3-0 run by the Red Flash in the first set when they were down 23-21, Dorn tallied two kills to help give the squad momentum.
After notching a kill for set point during the first set, Deardorff kept up his hot streak with three service aces to begin set two. Saint Francis tallied five of their six aces during the second set.
Beginning at 20-19 in set two, the Red Flash scored six of the final eight points that helped guide them to their 2-0 match lead. Brady Stump recorded two kills during the run.
Just like in the first match on Friday night, it took an all-around effort by the Red Flash in order to dominate the final set. The offensive attack once again registered 16 kills on an improved .615 hitting percentage. The defense was absolutely stifling as well, as they held D'Youville to a set-low four kills on a -.143 hitting percentage.
FLASH NUGGETS
Saint Francis has started 2-0 in Northeast Conference play for the second year in a row.
The Red Flash defense was absolutely suffocating in today's contest, holding D'Youville to 25 kills and a .038 hitting percentage. The hitting percentage is the lowest total that Saint Francis has held an opponent to this season. The team also combined for 10 total blocks.
Gall last recorded eight rejections versus Charleston on March 1, when he totaled six assisted and two solo.
Stump was second on the team in kills with nine and also recorded four digs, one block, and one ace.
Deardorff led the Red Flash with three service aces to go along with his eight kills, four digs, and one block. The senior outside hitter has now tallied three aces in three-straight matches and is up to 16 in the last four contests overall.
Kyle Charles tallied a season-best six blocks, including one solo rejection. The freshman setter piled on an additional 32 assists, three digs, and one kill.
Deardorff, Stump, and Richard Kaminski tied for the most digs with four.
