Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis indoor track & field had five members make it onto the All-Northeast Conference (NEC) teams and three athletes earned All-Rookie honors for their performances at the NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships in February, the conference announced on Monday.
The women's team finished third with 91 points and it featured five podium finishes. The women achieved their best finish at the Championships since 2007. Meanwhile, the men's team took sixth with 55.5 points and they had three athletes finish in the top-3 of their respective events.
On the women's side, Emma Fleck (800-meter dash: 2:18.45), Sarah Colman (500-meter dash: 1:16.85), and Brooke Long (triple jump: 11.45m) earned spots on the All-NEC second team. The three each registered a second place finish in their respective events while Long also placed fourth in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.49m. The three combined for 29 of the 91 points scored.
The NEC women's All-Rookie team consisted of Rylee Nicklas (shot put and weight throw) and Nina Connors (mile). Nicklas finished seventh in both of her events with scores of 11.31m and 14.61m to pitch in four points for the women's squad. As for Connors, she also took seventh with a time of 5:08.85 to contribute two points.
For the men's team, Clark Gulycz earned All-NEC first team and a spot on the All-Rookie team after becoming the men's shot put champion with a mark of 16.75m. The freshman was ahead of second place Greyson Golda (15.22m) from CCSU by 1.53m. It also proved to be his best mark of the indoor season.
Julian Saunders claimed a spot on the men's All-NEC second team after achieving a silver medal in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91. The senior also took fifth in the men's 200-meter dash by clocking in a time of 21.71. He finished the Championships with 12 points.
Outdoor track & field will compete at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University March 28-29.
