Men's And Women's Tennis Both Win 4-3 Against Tiffin

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – Both Saint Francis University Tennis teams defeated Tiffin 4-3 on Tuesday morning.

Women's Results: Saint Francis 4, Tiffin 3.  

Doubles 
Tiffin won the no. 1 and 2 doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Diana Zuba and Dasha Chichkina fought valiantly in the no. 1 match, losing in a close 7-6 (10-3) result.

Kelly Dowuona and Sara Jankovic won the no. 3 doubles match 6-3.

Singles 
Saint Francis won the no. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles matches to earn the victory on the day.

Zuba, Dowuona and Chichkina won the no. 1, 2 and 3 matches respectively to bring the Red Flash within a point of clinching. The no. 1 and 2 matches in particular were hard fought wins. Zuba won 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6), while Dowuona won 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Chichkina won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Sophia Cunnigham came up with the clinching point in a battle of her own in the no. 6 match. The freshman won 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4).

Men's Results: Saint Francis 4, Tiffin 3.

Doubles 
Saint Francis earned the doubles points with victories in the no. 1 and 2 doubles matches.

Alan Gonzalez and Gregory Troyan won the no. 1 match 6-3, while Patrick Reese and Kevin Kruzel battled to a 7-6 (10-4) win in the no. 2 match.

Singles 
Saint Francis won the no. 1, 2 and 5 singles matches to clinch their third win of the season.

Gonzalez cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win in the no. 1 match, improving to 10-8 in singles on the year.

Kevin Titus Suresh also won comfortably in the no. 2 match via a 6-2, 6-1 result. He is now 13-5 in singles this season.

Matt Kozar clinched the win for the Red Flash in an epic battle that he emerged victorious from. He won 3-6, 7-6 (11-9), 1-0 (10-6). Kozar is now 5-4 in singles on the year.

Flash Facts 
Dowuona has won six singles matches in a row and moves into sole possession of third place in program history for singles wins with 46. Dowuona also claimed the 50th doubles win of her career. The Brampton, Ontario native is rapidly approaching 100 total wins in her collegiate career, currently sitting at 96 after today's results. Dowuona would be the second Saint Francis women's tennis player to ever hit the century mark, with Alex Sachs being the only player in program history to ever eclipse 100 wins.

Zuba has now won seven singles matches in a row dating back to Feb. 1. 

Cunningham and Chichkina have both now won three singles matches in a row.

Reese won his 50th career match overall with his doubles victory over the Dragons. Troyan reached the same feat with his doubles win.

Titus Suresh has now won three singles matches in a row.

Next 
Both Saint Francis tennis teams play again on Thursday. The men's team meet Lake Superior State at 9:00 a.m., while the women's team plays UNC Wilmington at the same time.
