Track & Field Starts 2026 Off With The Nittany Lion Challenge

NITTANY LION CHALLENGE HISTORY
During the last meet, Saint Francis track & field's Sarah Colman broke the women's indoor 600-meter dash school record as a part of 12 top-10 finishes for both teams at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State's Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in 2024-25. Colman finished eighth overall in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:38.15. The sophomore broke a 21-year old record that was previously held by Marcella Hughes, who recorded a time of 1:38.34 on January 11, 2004 in Windsor, Ontario.

The best finish of the day came from Julian Saunders in the men's 200-meter dash. The senior placed third with a time of 21.90. He also registered a seventh place finish in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.90.


LAST EVENT

The women's team accumulated eight top 12 performances. Olivia Renk finished sixth in the 60-meter dash and eighth in the 300-meter dash on the women's side. The sophomore ran in a time of 7.73 in the 60-meter and a 39.80 time in the 300-meter. Morgan McNaughton came in hot during the 3000-meter run. She placed eighth with a time of 10:27.97.

Once again Rylee Nicklas placed in the top 10, this time in ninth place for shot put. The sophomore threw an impressive 11.33 meters. Nicklas also placed ninth in weight throw with a reach of 13.83 meters.Taylor Foster picked up 12th place due to leap of 10.83 meters. Two Red Flash placed in the top three for women's pole vault. Karsyn Ford reached 3.45-meters and Aubrie Wells was right behind her with 3.15-meters. 

On the other side, the men's team registered 10 top 11 finishes. Clark Gulycz had a standout performance, taking first place in shot put. He threw 16.64m. Wyatt Jumper took 11th place with a throw of 14.05m. Senior Vincent Franco threw his way into second place. He reached 16.15 meters, meanwhile Joseph Sevison was not far behind him with 16.04 meters. Sevison placed third.

Coming off a huge leap, Tyler Craft finished in eighth place with 6.77 meters. Not far behind him was the freshman, Nehemyah Williams. Williams collected 10th place with a jump of 6.71m in the men's long jump. Once again, Craft and Williams placed high in the triple jump. Craft bumped up to fifth place with a takeoff of 14.33m. Williams jumped 13.86m to sit him in the 10th spot. Sophomore, Ayden Martinage, took fifth in the high jump with a lift of 1.95 meters. The junior, Dylan Andrews, extended his way into fifth place by a stretch over 4.05 meters. 

NEC PRESEASON POLL 

Saint Francis women's track & field was picked fifth in the NEC Preseason Poll. Wagner earned five first-place votes and earned the distinction of being the preseason favorite. Stonehill and CCSU both gained two first-place nods to finish in second and third place. Chicago State gained the last vote for first-place, finishing in fourth. After the Red Flash in fifth place, FDU, LIU, New Haven, Mercyhurst, and Le Moyne round out the ten-team poll. 

Saint Francis men's track & field was picked seventh in the NEC Preseason Poll. CCSU earned eight first-place votes and earned the distinction of being the preseason favorite. Wagner gained one first-place vote to finish in second. Stonehill and Chicago State were picked to finish in third and fourth. FDU and LIU were both tied in fifth place, however, LIU earned the last vote for first-place. After the Red Flash in seventh place, New Haven, Le Moyne, and Mercyhurst round out the ten-team poll. 

NEXT UP FOR RED FLASH

Saint Francis will continue its schedule in Lewisburg, Pa. in the Gulden Invitational. This will take place on January 24.
