The Saint Francis women's tennis team fell short against NEC rival FDU, losing 4-3 on Sunday evening at the Hershey Tennis Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ Â
For the third time in their last four matches, the Red Flash started strong by claiming the crucial doubles point. On court two, senior Kelly Dowuona and freshman Gabriela Almanza secured a 6-4 victory.
On court three, when all hope seemed lost for the underclassmen duo of sophomore Sophia Cunningham and freshman Emma Marais, who faced a 5-1 deficit, the pair rallied to win six straight games, closing out doubles play with a final score of 7-5.
In singles action on court three, program wins leader and women's player of the week, senior Kelly Dowuona, won her fourth consecutive match of the spring season, capturing her 71st career victory with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The final Red Flash victory of the evening came on court five, where junior Reagen Mangan and her FDU opponent battled through a third-set tiebreak, with Mangan prevailing 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (11-9).

The Saint Francis women's tennis team is back in action Saturday, Feb.21, as they travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania take on the Mountain Hawks at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
