WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Despite mounting a late-inning comeback to tie the game, the Saint Francis softball team came up short in its rubber match against Stonehill, falling 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Fr. Gartland Field in North Easton, Mass. Senior Annabelle Farmer led the way for Saint Francis, launching her sixth home run of the season to cap the game-tying rally.
FLASH MOMENTS
Stonehill struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, building a 3-0 lead through two frames before Saint Francis finally responded. In the top of the third, junior Aliya Garroway put the Red Flash on the board with her third home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Skyhawks further extended their lead in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice, making it a 4-1 game. However, Saint Francis once again refused to stay down in this series. With two on and nobody out at the top of the fifth, Garroway closed the gap on Stonehill's lead with a three-run shot to deep center field, tying the getaway game of the series at four runs. Stonehill rallied and retook the lead in the fifth before further extending it in the sixth to capture the win with a final score of 7-4.
