Academic Meetings
Student-athletes needing extra academic help will meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis individually with personnel from the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services staff at a regularly scheduled time. These meetings will cover such things as time management, study skills, stress management, test taking tips, academic progress, etc.

Student-athletes are expected to attend every regularly scheduled meeting on time and prepared. In addition, upperclassmen with less than a 2.500 cumulative GPA will be required to meet with the personnel from the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services staff regularly to monitor academic progress. The athletics staff member will contact the student-athlete via campus email to inform him/her of the requirements.

- All freshmen student-athletes deemed “at-risk” by the Athletics Department based on Initial Eligibility Center information, in addition to, will be contacted within the first two weeks of the Fall semester, and concurrent Spring semester, to schedule their academic meetings for the entire remainder of the respective semester.

- Failure to meet with the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services staff may result in loss of athletic participation privileges.

Study Table 
In order to provide a positive learning environment for new students and students who have not met specific academic standards, the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services Office offers a study table program that is available to students throughout the academic year. The purpose of study table is to provide students with a comfortable, interactive learning environment that will promote a high level of academic achievement and development. If student-athletes utilize their study time in an effective manner, they will undoubtedly make positive strides toward attaining their academic goals.

Requirements (4 hours per week) 

- All Freshmen:  Both semesters 
- Upperclassmen below a 2.500 cumulative GPA 

Hours 
- Mondays – Thursdays  8:00 AM – 4:00 PM 
- Fridays  8:00 AM – 12:00 PM 

Book Loan Program 
  • Any student-athlete receiving athletic aid from the Department of Athletics is eligible to receive used books from the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services Office.
  • Books will be made available to these student-athletes during the first week of each semester on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All books MUST be returned to the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services Office at the end of the semester.
  • Student-athletes are required to buy any book that they do not return to the office at the used book cost determined by the Saint Francis University Bookstore.
  • Books are to be returned by each student-athlete IN-PERSON to the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services Office once he/she has completed his/her academic course and semester requirements.
  • Student-athletes are permitted to write in and highlight the material in the books loaned to them however DELIBERATE destruction or misuse of the Book Loan Program (providing books for student-athletes not receiving scholarship aid) may result in loss of athletic privileges and/or participation.
  • A student-athlete who drops a course must return the textbook(s) to the Student-Athlete Development and Academic Services Office within two scholastic days from the schedule change.

GEN 101:  Freshman Student-Athlete Experience
This freshman experience course is designed to help our student-athletes make an effective transition from high school into Saint Francis University.  The Freshman Student-Athlete Experience focuses on areas where students need assistance, awareness, and extra support to succeed during their critical first semester on campus. Through this course, students will enhance their skills and knowledge in the areas of academic success, leadership development, personal wellness, and career exploration.  Class topics include: the difference between high school and college, NCAA rules and regulations, training for academic success, drugs and alcohol education, health and wellness, social networking, and stress management. The class also introduces students to important offices across campus that will give them the support and confidence they need to be successful student athletes at Saint Francis University. They will learn how to successfully manage the unique characteristics of being a student-athlete.  This graded, one credit course is only offered in the Fall semester for incoming freshman student-athletes.
